Tesco Lotus sets new procedure for alcoholic beverages sales amid Covid-19 risk

Tesco Lotus has reorganised sales of alcoholic beverages at every branch nationwide to lessen the risk of Covid-19 infection.

Beverage shelves at the stores have been reorganised after customers were found tugging to buy the drinks a few days ago.

There will be only one access and one exit for the beverage shelves alley.

Five customers are allowed to enter the alley at one time and they have to be at least one metre away from one another.

Tecos Lotus has also ordered over 2,000 branches to sanitise the shelves while customers have to clean their hands with alcohol sanitiser.

I don't normally do any"tugging" while buying alcohol. That is reserved for when I'm alone in the privacy of my own home....

Easier just to buy alcohol at other places that don't have so many restrictions on opening time.

Usually cheaper as well.

Makro was bedlam the day before alcohol went on sale. They should open the shop, say 9am, then let in x number of people, then shut the doors. Everyone else must queue up (as if that's possible lol), and let on one trolley in for every trolley exiting. Thais are supposedly tolerant. I'm sure they can deal with that 55

I wonder why there was bedlam the day before alcohol went back on sale, maybe regular shoppers wanted to buy the regular stuff before those wanting alcohol hit the store.

We actually went to a Makro on Sunday at 11.00, whilst there were long queues of beer laden trollies waiting to check out, it certainly wasn't bedlam, we thought we'd made a mistake going at that time, by the time we reached the check-out, and I will admit that we a box of wine, at 11.45 it was all pretty much back to normal, will one person ahead of us at the check-out.

One more news on the topic ... it's just 1, 2 days that this restriction got lifted.

Should it get ignored, not reported by TVF?

I think it's great piece of news. Well done Tesco.

It's a similar dynamic to before the pandemic with the no-sales rules from 2-5pm. You'd see an increased number around the booze just before 2 and again just after 5. Most Sundays I get to the wine section just before 2. I'll buy it and the person serving me stores the wine for me while I eat lunch and go shopping. I pick it up again between the 2-5pm hours.

Maybe if you stopped banning it on a whim and didn't have the 2-5 no-sales rule people wouldn't have to panic. Let people buy it whenever they want or when the shop is open. Treat them like adults and they might start behaving like such.

OK.  That explains why the disabled parking spaces at my local Tesco are clogged up with motorbikes.  Actually it does not explain it at all because Big C and Makro manage to organise disabled parking quite well.

It is a Thai-owned affiliate. I've been to Tesco's Thai headquarters. I can't tell you how many foreigners I saw working in their offices. At least a hundred, probably more.

I went to Macro in south Pattaya yesterday , I was alone in the alcohol section at 1.30 PM, It looked as any day before the pandemic.

Nothing new, it was exactly the same when the shelves were empty during the floods.

i was in Big C one day and saw a pallet truck come through the plastic curtain, like piranha, within seconds all that was left was a pallet and a pile of clingfilm.

I would find this embarrassing.  No other countries in the region behave this way.  One of the few joys Thai have left is an occasional drink.  Don't think they drink as much as those in Indochina, and yet there is order.   It is just embarrassing.
