Surviving Thai Prison - Why You Wouldn't Make It

Thai prison is one of the most brutal places to be held as a prisoner. There is no reforming or lawyers who will help you, and you will rot behind bars in Thailand for committing a silly crime you didn't even know was happening.

In today's video we're going to show you exactly why you wouldn't survive Thai prison, and next time you travel, know when to call it quits, instead of trying some seedy job that you will surely get busted for.

The buggers had the shirt off your back too, did they?

I can't sleep on the hard floor, its why I moved from the village.  When I bought the bed I had it was used as a table......

Very bad. But I know countries that carry out the death sentence. Some even for drug possession.

Well, you'd have to be a 5 year old to believe it.

oh i don't know about that. i have done about eight weeks of lock down. that makes me a bad a**.

Speaking and understanding Thai is most important before and during incarceration.

Some of the young foreigners caught up in drug charges are clueless to how much trouble they’re in.

I don't see how people can be so flippant about the conditions in Thai prisons...

Historical note: This 1st/2nd/3rd world nomenclature came about post WWII to describe western capitalist democracies allied with the US vs. the communists allied or dominated by the Soviet Union. Third World was poor, non-aligned countries. It's not a ranking system, and mostly obsolete.

Sorry if this seems pedantic. I studied international development in the 1980s.

Shocked to see TV allowing the disparaging cast to Lucky Bar in Chiang Mai.  There IS such a place and they can't be happy for such an inflammatory post!

Why did you move to the village in the first place?

There are plenty of idiots who did survive it. Some even write about it. Others weren't deterred enough to change their ways and got sent there more than once.

And some that didnt do anything wrong are in there. They survived and are not idiots.

See the episode in the series 'locked up abroad' of the farang woman who spent a few years in the Bkk Hilton and you'll get a taste of what it's like.

I too frequented Lucky Bar in C Mai for years and I have known the lovely lady owner since 1989. She is a close friend and she speaks English and several European languages fluently - my first Thai wife was her best friend. (She did say it would not last - sadly she was right). A skilled businesswoman, she would probably see the funny side of what she would no doubt call "free advertising". She did say one interesting thing to me some years ago though - (we were talking about all the filth and corruption and how polluted the air in C Mai had become) and she commented that "Thailand is a throw-away country, a place just-for-fun, - as a Thai you make all your money here, then you just retire and go live some place better." The thing is though - she could have retired and left LOS many years ago, but she still lives there. Chog Dee little lady.

Cute video but why are you promoting BS ?

Violence is not what you will encounter the most in Thai prisons if you keep quiet.

Only idiots who know nothing about Thai prisons could keep saying this.

I prefer 100 times to be in a filthy Thai prisons with Thai than any US or EU prisons filled with minorities that are no more minorities when in jail...

I've been in Thai prison and it was a drag but I had zero problems with inmates, staff or being seen by members of my embassy.  I didn't watch the video, but based on the title alone, I wouldn't bother.

I sure would like the contact information for the one lawyer who helped him...just in case
