19-Year-Old Shot Dead on Roadside in Phatthalung
An incident early on October 28, saw a 19-year-old man fatally shot on a roadside in Phatthalung Province, Thailand, allegedly over an unresolved personal conflict. The victim, identified as Mr. Siwakorn, was found just 150 metres from his home, having been shot multiple times in what appears to be a targeted attack. Police Lieutenant Boonrit Nuakhiao and officers from Pa Phayom Police Station, along with rescue teams, responded to the scene on Na Sai - Bo Kai Road, Moo 2, Koh Tao Subdistrict, Pa Phayom District. They discovered Mr. Siwakorn's body lying in a pool of blood, with gunshot wounds from a .38 caliber firearm to his chest, back, left arm, left side, and nape. No shell casings were found at the scene. Police also uncovered four methamphetamine pills in his pocket, which were taken as evidence for further investigation. Initial investigations revealed that an unknown individual or individuals arrived at the victim's home by motorcycle and picked him up, likely for a planned discussion over a personal matter. About 20 minutes later, nearby residents reported hearing three to four gunshots. Village headman Wisut Klaisriboon was notified and, upon arriving at the scene, confirmed the victim had been fatally shot and subsequently alerted the police. Police are currently investigating potential motives, with initial suspicions pointing toward a dispute related to illicit activities. Authorities are working to identify the suspects and bring clarity to the circumstances surrounding Mr. Siwakorn's murder. Picture from responders. -- 2024-10-29 -

Tak Bai Massacre Case Dismissed as Statute of Limitations Expires
Just imagine the suffering of those 78 people stacked like logs in the stifling heat? And the frustration of those left behind seeking justice? You can rave all you like about what a wonderful country Thailand is and how sweet and kind its people can be, but behind the façade there are some ugly elements to Thai society rivalling the worst of corruption and depravity to be found in the region. -

Monk’s Dwelling Burns Down Days After His Passing
A fire broke out at 06.30 on October 28, at the residence of a recently deceased monk at Wat Samrong, Moo 8, Saan Chao Rong Thong Subdistrict, Wiset Chai Chan District, Ang Thong. District Chief Apichat Srihera received the report and promptly arrived at the scene alongside police and local fire crews from Wiset Chai Chan Municipality, Phai Chamsin Subdistrict, and Saan Chao Rong Thong Subdistrict, dispatching a total of four fire trucks and rescue personnel from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation. Witnesses report seeing flames emerge from the door of the dwelling of Phra Wichai Puangbanyen, 47, a monk who passed away just two days prior. The fire engulfed the structure, leaving it completely in ruins. Firefighters worked for approximately 60 minutes before successfully extinguishing the flames. While no injuries or fatalities occurred, the monk’s quarters and surrounding areas suffered severe damage. Locals have speculated that the late monk’s spirit might wish to remain in the space, adding a layer of mystique to the incident. Deputy Inspector Banjob Choisiriket from Wiset Chai Chan Police Station and forensic investigators are examining the scene to determine the fire’s cause. Picture from responders. -- 2024-10-29 -
