The government already knows my name, my address, my phone number, and even has my fingerprints. If they want me for something, they know how to find me. I'm not concerned with letting them  know that I was in Rimping at a certain day and time.

If someone who was there at the same time as me becomes sick, this is a great way to warn and isolate potential infections, and limit the spread.  It should have been done all along.

But I am concerned with the possibility of a data breach on my phone. I think it's time to have a second phone just for shopping, without any bank info or other personal information in it. Phones are cheap enough these days to make this feasible.

I've had a second phone for years. Nothing on it but my books and music, plus my LINE account. Useful when I feel the nosey parkers are closing in, it has the number of an expired SIM to satisfy their curiosity.

Does that work online when you're out and about away from the home wifi?

I'm thinking you would normally have to use the mobile data plan to load this webpage.

I'll be happy when this entire clusterfoxtrotry collapses due to its own entropy.  "Oh but people will be infected because they aren't social distancing properly!!!" <hand-wringing>
Good.  I hope the infection rate gets above 60%. Quickly. That will essentially force things back to normalcy.  People are not going to continue this moronic dance for an extended period of time.  The novelty is already wearing off and it's only day 2.  I sat at an exit and watched people navigate the QR code exits.  It was entertaining.  One employee herding cats.  Cardboard QR signs kept falling over due to the back-pressure of wind through the doors, people walking over downed signs, confused people trying to figure out what to do with their phones, people bunching up in close-knit groups trying to get to the QR code signs, people just walking around the whole mess.  It was entertaining to watch.

Like one of our friend's signature: "Thailand - LSD without the LSD." More like Thailand - PCP without the PCP.  <laughs>  Yeah, entertaining to say the least.

you must be a hoot at parties.

I'm betting nobody invites him to parties, that's the reason for being such a sourpuss....  Oh wait, was that a party for me...me...me?

How does that help any of the people in the stores around you, should it, God forbid, turn out that you are asymptomatic and unknowingly spreading the virus?

This bloody 'me-me-me' attitude that people display really makes me wonder.

Thanks to ThaiVisa, it no longer surprises me. But it still makes me wonder.

You might be new here in ThaiVisa, but you certainly fit right in.

Had the same this afternoon (18th) in Decathalon.

Firstly, going into the actual shopping centre Decathalon is in, had temp, alcohol and had to write down name & telephone number.

Next step, getting into Decathalon, had to go onto my LINE app, scan a code, that took me to a website where I hit the green button, I could then enter.

If you are going to have to do this at every shop, I don't think I'll be visiting many in future!

What app is this?
At BigC this morning they had girls holding big QR codes, but how is it used? Do you have to install an app? I didn't see them scanning a phone QR code, which would have made more sense. I don't carry a phone, so they said to sign-in. Is someone going to type the illegible scrawlings into a database? They already know when you are there from the BigC card, assuming you buy something.

Cute girls? Screaming into a distorted tiny speaker?  She can scan my LINE QR code---for hansum man!

Ten seconds, surely you jest or perhaps you haven't seen Thais in a queue before.

Example: At Makro, Thai checking out. Cashier scans all items prints out receipt and then the Thai finally digs into purse, fumbles for wallet, flips thru all the bills, hands the bills to the cashier, and then fumbles for that last satang to complete the payment. Or even upon entering the area to the cashier, now fumbles into wallet or purse to find that membership card.

Yes, and they did all that even BEFORE this Covid-19 malarkey.

Am I missing a point or not?

I see that the concept of contact tracing as an effective after-the-fact preventative measure rather than a pre-emptive prophylaxis is still a bit over your head.

If only one shopper is deterred from doing this more than 2 or 3 times a week, then the purpose has been well served.

You simply scan the QR code with your smart phone, that's it. Nothing to install and no other intervention needed.

If you don't have a phone (mine is always left in the truck), then you put your name and phone number in the 'visitors book'.

Nothing could be simpler or as well thought out. Thailand's concept of introducing extensive, non-invasive contact tracing at the same time as relaxing a significant restriction on freedom of movement was even mentioned on ABC and Economist news pages.

Or save a load of time and money, bring your own pen and sign the visitors book.

My experience so far of bypassing the mobile phone QR code fumbling queues and going straight to the sign-in books (and using my own pen) is way, way faster.

After the fact contact tracing will also find the asymptomatic. That's how some countries like China and South Korea quickly established that there was a percentage of asymptomatic carriers.

Unless you mean I just read @FolkGuitar's whining bit again?

Had you actually read the post to which I was referring, rather than just your knee-jerk reaction to my name, you would have seen that I was talking about someone who was AVOIDING attempts at contact tracing. Next time, please read first, and then post. You won't come out looking like such a berk.

Apologies for not properly reading the glib and facile post that you were referring to.

Now, how about working not being a bit of "berk" yourself?
