Prayut Chan-o-cha

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has emphasised that students must study online until the Covid-19 situation improves and schools can reopen, government spokesperson Narumon Pinyosinwat said on Monday (May 18).

She added the government was trying to address problems of accessibility and affordability of teaching materials, parental care, and responsibility of learners.

“Initially, we will focus on reducing study time in the classroom, parents’ readiness, and relieving the burden of sending children to school, which will also help to reduce traffic congestion,” she said.

“Meanwhile, we urge education-related authorities to secure people’s cooperation until the Covid-19 outbreak is resolved.”

Stadtler has a version on online learning that "no need internet when no hab."

It's called the Bible.  Child can read Bible printed on paper while waiting for special Flintstone's Tablet to arrive from Amazon.

Yet another proclamation from the all seeing oracle and his band of grubby minions, just a pity they have put zero thought on infrastructure and budgeting...

Actually maybe they have, the people who cannot find a way or afford it don't need an education for what their futures holds..

I don't think there are many without access to a smart phone these days.

The current problem being, the phone app doesn't work.

Who knows. Single digits for some time now. Is he waiting for the whole world to have no cases?

if the stats for thailand are true, and granted this may be a big IF, any western country with similar stats would be pretty much back to normal.

Today's figures from Thailand according to Worldometers.info

Total cases: 3031

New cases: 3

Total deaths: 56

Nothing wrong with caution but the actions don't fit with the figures. This is one of the reasons I struggle to believe the figures Thailand puts out. 3 new cases but schools can't open?

I suspect that low figures will be a factor in many countries for quite some time after the pandemic is formally considered over. How low do they have to get before he removes all restrictions? Or does he know something we don't?

Look how quickly numbers can increase. Russia one month ago had virtually none, now they are at 300,000....schools, bars, anywhere people are close is a breeding ground....taking the virus home to breadwinners will just add to the problem

You mean the pandemic that doesn't effect children?
Don't worry about it Uncle Tu.  The new generation of uneducated kids can replace the Burmese laborers in the neo-feudal Thailand that you all are building.  Who needs school?  Shoot the proles the horns and tell them to eat rice chaft.  You're doing a great job!

Kids are mobile disease vectors.  They can spread a disease more effectively than anything on Earth!  If one student with a cold or flu comes to a primary classroom he or she is guaranteed to infect at least two or three classmates.  They are especially likely to spread C19, as children are usually asymptomatic and won't even know that they have caught it and are spreading it.

Most schools in Thailand are scheduled to start on July 1 and most Thais live in extended 3 or 4 generation families, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a wave of grandparents falling ill in late July.

So free internet for every village.

Internet access- they may have internet but most of the students I taught at high school and uni were very careful of data charges, they always looked for free wifi. A few hours of online classes each day will use a lot of data.

The policy is going to help with traffic!!!!! Ok, its true, but certainly shouldn't be used as a reason to teach online.

They have already changed the school year and announced it. No October break, short songkran holiday. That should take care of it, why do they insist on making it so much more difficult then they have too. If they do online for 6 weeks then start a regular semester they'll be overwhelmed.

Yes, my daughter was supposed to start at 9am.  Then there were problems, and it was put back to 12, that didn't work, she might start tomorrow, or if they can't do that, maybe the 25th of May.

Wait out.

The app/system cannot cope with the numbers...

The ones i know are all busy 'studying' Cartoons and Music !

Maybe schools can have there classes in Ikea.

A video posted on Facebook of one lesson from the new TV channel was highly amusing. Also, a man who can't be named on here posted a screenshot of what the daily lessons are about. Let's say that the indoctrination is still alive and well.

This forced school closure has created a mess all the way around. It's time to follow many other countries lead and start cautiously opening the schools.

With 44 students to a class how do you think they will manage social distance

“Initially, we will focus on reducing study time in the classroom, parents’ readiness, and relieving the burden of sending children to school, which will also help to reduce traffic congestion,” she said.

Because the good thing about children not going to school and people going to work is that there is no traffic congestion? Is that the logic here? Well now that we know this, let's ban schools forever. Then there will be little traffic.

Amazing. She is paid to say sensible things when politicians ca't be trusted to do that. What hope does Thailand have!!

The school my kid goes to doesn't have an online study program so now what genius? School is an important of a childs development, not just the education material. This bozo is now talking about easing traffic congestion as a bonus to schools being closed. What a tool!

They expect that Every Kid Has an I Phone/computer and Internet. What about the Poor adults and Poor kids. There are still thousands of people that don't have that .

What do they expect ,That those Poor kids don't have/need to learn. ????

Must be Thai Logic.

Back to watching 'Minecraft' on Youtube.

They could use Google Classroom or Google Meeting, or both; they work, and that's what some of the International schools are using, they didn't have a break in March and April, and continue till around mid July.
