Food-delivery firms making most of Covid-19 crisis

Many food-delivery operators have been found to be taking advantage of the fact that restaurants can’t serve meals in their premises in line with measures to curb Covid-19 and charging restaurants unfair amounts for their services.

The Office of Trade Competition Commission (OTCC) will monitor such unfair practices and operators found guilty will be find up to 10 per cent of their yearly revenue, OTCC’s secretary-general Somsak Kiatchailak said. This is in line with the 2018 Competition Act, he added.

OTCC is watching out for operators that charge restaurants a lot for promotions and set unfair conditions, he said, adding that the commission also found many delivery operators had set tricky conditions in their contracts that stopped restaurants from opting for other companies.

The commission has set up a sub-committee to study unfair behaviour in the food-service sector and has told it to come up with regulations to stop unfair practices.

Initially though, Somsak said, both operators and restaurants will be given an opportunity to have their say before the new rules are put into effect.

They charge a whopping 30% plus VAT. I work with them and it is tough making any profit with prices going up, 3-5 weeks for one of the firms to approve menu changes, photos and prices. Are you listening, Food Panda?

The Grab riders do a great job in Pattaya...always quick, polite..nice to get good service...only 10baht on top of price

Saw report on either BBC or Australia+ other day about plastic pollution up 15% due to all the take aways and home delivery. And this leads to more clogged waterways, trash all over. Blamed the virus? I blame thoughtless population. May keep home neat as a pin, but as soon as step off property the world is their trash bin

Nail these scumbags to the wall

we also have a new menice on thai roads ,the scooter delivery dude....

Yes only 10 baht excellent value, but it still leaves the food stall with next to nothing

Some genius should make a graph/infoslide with a bunch of information (as inaccurate it may be overall) such as start of Delivery Company, restaurants joined, take away vs dine in numbers, a side by side list of profit restaurant vs delivery company and whatever else have you....

...perfect case study to understanding how cancer works and spreads.

The food stall gets to sell it's product. What more does the food stall expect? ????

You got to think with good food it costs 60% of the ingredients to make it. Then pay workers and then if renting a unit that and cooking gas and automobile gasoline. Add Panda mandatory 30% and it really cuts into any profit. It is seriously outrageous.

Thats extortion, my daughter has 3 takeaways in England and she uses a similar type of set up dont know what it's called in normal times its 15% at the moment they dropped it down to 9% which I think it's good considering the amount of business that comes her way
