Dr Yong Poovorawan

Children face the same risks as adults in contracting Covid-19, but kids show no or very mild symptoms when infected, Chulalongkorn University expert virologist Dr Yong Poovorawan said on his Facebook page today (May 19).

“Therefore, we must find a way for children to study online without the risk of infection as they might spread the disease to their parents,” he warned in his post.

He advised schools to strictly implement Covid-19 preventive measures after they reopen for the new semester. This includes reducing the number of students in each classroom, “arranging” students so they maintain a safe distance from each other, and measuring their body temperature before they attend class.

“Meanwhile, schools must look after students’ health, such as seeing that they wash their hands regularly, eat clean food and always wear a face mask to prevent the spread of Covid-19,” he said.

He also advised the government to invite doctors treating infectious diseases, epidemiologists, child psychiatrists and science teachers to discuss the issue of reopening schools.

“The reopening must be based on science and evidence related to physical and mental health, not politics,” he added.

Vulnerable sick and elderly people need to be isolated, as they make up the overwhelming majority of COVID 19 fatalities.

The rest of us, including children, need to start mixing in order to achieve herd immunity - which, sans any vaccine, is the only certain way to see off the virus.

Doesn't make sense, you can't isolate the elderly for ever, they might as well die as spend life in Jail!!!

Governments have controlled the spread, the hospitals are able to cope with the elderly who become very ill, the virus needs to steadily 'run it's course'

The only real issue is maintaining the ability to treat the very sick

Children generally get mild or no symptoms. If there is no cure then there are only two options, lock down and spread it out over time, or just get it over and done with. Assuming hospitals can cope then the death rate will be the same. The real difference is locking down decimates the economy, getting it over with also to a degree, but far less.

Many people for some reason fail to understand this, and assume that lock down is somehow a cure. All governments explained this when the virus first erupted. I do note though that most screaming for a longer lock down are generally wealthy progressives or those on a guaranteed government salary, in other words those not suffering financially.

Most "experts" admit there will be no vaccine this year. The US front runner in fact is a new system of altering our DNA, its never been tested on human beings and animal trials are being skipped to speed it up, plus a government guarantee was given that the company can't be held liable for any side effects and deaths. As nightmarish as this sounds I expect there will be a stampede to get injected.

By isolating the elderly, I didn't mean keeping them under house arrest, but simply ensuring they are kept apart from potential carriers among family and friends.

Old folk need to fresh air, exercise and sunlight to boost their immune systems. Unfortunately relatively safe spaces such as beaches and public parks are still closed.

The children are at home with their family, their family meet others and the children meet and play with other children. There is no way to stop the spread of this virus unless you want to live in a bubbl and never interact with anyone ever again. The only way to fight this virus is being healthy. Government giving good advice on what to eat and what supplements to take. We do not see this happening and it is the only logical thing to do." Let food be thy medicine, and let medicine be your food" (Hippocrates). This so called virologist is an idiot.
