4 hours to check in.

No hand luggage.

Need to wear masks and gloves.

Sounds like flying will be a great experience moving forward.

No hand luggage? I would be very hesitant to put my laptop-computer in my suitcase as checked baggage. Even with a FRAGILE sticker on the suitcase I would be worried whether it would survive

  • Don't bring hand luggage??? So where the hell do they expect you to put your laptop and Lithium ion batteries that always had to be carried in hand luggage, not under the plane. Total stupidity at it'

Don't fly.

Thai airways down,

A380 down,

..

The list will be long. I know COVID was just the nail in the coffin for some but there will be a glut in the market for second hand long haul airliners and cruise ships.

you can thank CH for that.

No hand luggage?

I would be very hesitant to put my laptop-computer in my suitcase as checked baggage.

Even with a FRAGILE sticker on the suitcase I would be worried whether it would survive the often rough airplane luggage-treatment.

Some airlines want people check in online! And hand luggage need fit unter seat! No cloves needed also only mask. I go to visit Finland when i know i can come back, not before!

Just got an email from Emirates

Funnily enough I received one from KLM today with a link to a video guide. KLM doesn't appear to have gone to the same extremes as Emirates, no hazmat suits and you can take hand luggage.

Though I very much doubt I'll be flying anywhere much for the next 12 months, and certainly not back to the UK or Europe.

I also thought that the news have always said air travel is safe as the air in the aircraft has hospital grade HEPA filters changing the air fully in the cabin every few mins.

Commercial aircraft have the best air filter systems going.

It's always been a myth that the air is poor up there & one person will infect a whole aircraft if unwell

One person can but that would be down to very poor personal hygiene & practice otherwise the crew would be constantly getting ill.

There has just been a 20 minute test developed in the UK

Surely they can use something like that?

A test is being trialled. Some good news for the British government to put out and it won't be the first time if it then quietly disappears.

They did already a month ago  on a flight from Dubai to Tunisia. Passengers tested and result within 10 minutes.

I hope they are getting extra pay for having to wear the PPE, it must be awful to work in these 'suits' and masks.

I'd rather let this over kill attitudes to pass over a bit until they themselves will feel and see how ridiculousness this is and it is not sustainable in the long run...

What about "new normal"

Personally I'm not too concerned about the no hand luggage. We ( Thai wife ) and I travel back for business and have everything we need here and in the UK without lugging gear around the world.

However, what's going to be the rules for buying duty free, and what is the reasoning behind this anyway?

We are due to go back in September, but if they continue  making a less than enjoyable journey even more painful then I'll delay.  Thankfully Emirates are waving change fees which are normally £300 each.

On a slight tangent, if Thai Air can't operate I can see Emirates having reasonably full flights once there is a relaxation on entry/exit to countries.

Yep there's a few that are getting on my nerves!

Yeah I was just told by China Airlines that I can't board my flight to Taiwan June 1 as non resident. Maybe in July....

Same for me. Laptop and Camera are too expensive and fragile to travel in checked baggage!

Looks like we will have to use some kind of "air travel vest"  ????

I never pack valuables in the luggage. Always in carry on. I don't see that spreading the virus. Emirates policies seem over the top.

I think those still working will probably be grateful to still have a job, rather than thinking about more money.

Never mind hand luggage, the A380 bar is shut!
