SURVEY: Should Foreigners separated from family be allowed to return?

There has been a recent thread concerning mostly Foreigners who are stranded outside Thailand and would like to return to be with their families.   Which option best describes your opinion on the situation.

Provided they have the necessary permits (PR, Marriage visa, retirement extension, work permit and the like) they should be treated like returning Thais, i.e. should undergo a 14 days quarantine at a government facility, normal or luxurious, if the can and wish to afford it.

Quarantine at home with an app fairly simple really then Thailand cant start rinsing me again in earnest and I can give up drinking copious amounts of red wine again ????

It is a backwards nationalistic policy that is  medically unsound from an epidemiology perspective.  I thought anything short of PR was not a legal residence in Thailand, jut a visitor. I was wrong.   Obviously you need a Thai passport to honestly say you have a right to live here, an impossible goal for MOST The virus does not discriminate. It knows no border. A Thai person coming in is just as likely infected as a foreigner the rules should be same

 

For the poll there should have been an option to "quarantine 14 days" at ones own residence.  People here have businesses, families, wonderful homes and gardens with plenty of space for "social distancing" No reason they can't be isolated at home and safer than being put into a cramped facility with strangers.  Understand the need to limit unnecessary travel (tourists) But foreign people live here and this should be realized by the authorities.

IMHO the test at the end should be 2 tests, meaning that those coming into LOS must do 14 days quarantine and should get 2 negative test results before leaving quarantine, perhaps 12 days into quarantine and then at 14 days. But whether that routine is logical in terms of development etc., of the virus I don't know.

Why? Thais don’t pay for it. If you’re working here and paying tax, then I see no reason to make non-Thais pay.

Those persons are not Thai nationals and do not have any rights to enter or reside in Thailand whatsoever.

Anyone that left in February, March or April knew there was a risk that they wouldn't be able to travel or get back into Thailand. If they didn't, they are either lying or an idiot.

They let Thais back in the country, and they brought the virus with them...

I can't agree with your opinion.

 

 

If a returning Thai returns with their husband/partner then that husband/partner should afforded the same rights i.e. entry permitted via the government screening/quarantine facility. No less, no more. That process has worked, returning spouses will not heighten the risk.

Actually the actual status of persons here on Non-Immigrant visas with extensions (not working or PR holders) is 'temporary visitor for purposes other than tourism'. 

 

As I said on the other thread, people need to read the small print and wake up to their actual status here.

Repatriation of Thai nationals is a right that (I believe) is protected in the Constitution and laws of Thailand.

 

Foreigners have no such rights enshrined anywhere in Thai law and most only remain on temporary visa extensions or permission to say, that can be cancelled on a whim by any immigration official.

Foreigners came to Thailand and have agreed to follow all the requirements to be able to live and have a family in the country.  

We follow the rules but the government is treating us like a fungus and giving us no rights.

We should be treated with equal respect as we do with all the government rules.  

Our wives and children have done nothing wrong but just because we were not born Thai we have no rights.

Of course they should. And there should also be a way for those with families here to obtain the citizenship without the need of being enslaved by a local company or start a business.

A firm no for me. You made your bed by leaving and should now be your own gov's problem, not another. We have zero rights here.

 

On top of that, as long as the money still flows, your Thai wife won't be worried at all if you are not here. We are no more than ATM's.

There are no rights even if have a valid visa & w/p.

The contagin is certainly not under any sort of control in the UK& Usa & many other countries so

why risk allowing them back ?

Most would have known when they left that getting back was going to be a problem.

I for one put off an important trip abroad for that very reason.
