Leading tourism and business industry figures have told the Thai media in Pattaya that shadowy figures - possibly state personnel - are standing to make millions out of the Covid-19 quarantine situation for Thais returning abroad.

Phuket’s lost summer – looking to 2021 for tourism recovery

In a solemn recognition of the reality of Phuket’s stalled tourist industry, a spokesperson for the southern chapter of the Thai Hotels Association is saying most of the west coast hotels are unlikely to reopen until the last quarter of this year. And that’s just the start of the problems for the popular island beach resort.

Wife stabs husband with broken bottle over refusal to fix fan

PHUKET: A woman at a construction camp in Thalang yesterday (May 24), outraged that her husband remained drinking with a friend instead of repairing an electric fan as she had repeatedly asked, attacked her husband with a bottle, leaving him with a serious gash to his head. Stabs to his chest with the broken bottle also left him with a punctured lung.

Phayao locals fear bio-power plant will ruin health, environment

2,000-3,000-year-old paintings discovered in Sam Roi Yot National Park

Archaeologists together with park officials exploring a cave in Prachuap Khiri Khan’s Sam Roi Yot National Park have found colour paintings estimated to be 2,000-3,000 years old and dating back to the prehistoric era, expert archaeologist Kannika Premjai revealed recently.

Ekkamai residents fight plan to build 43-storey ‘Impression’

‘Deadly dumplings’ reveal salmonella, cops call in vendor

The plot thickened yesterday in the case of the “deadly dumplings” suspected of killing one person and sickening nearly 20 more in Samut Prakan earlier this month. Health officials investigating the shop where the dumpling vendor said she bought her wares found that it did not open on the day she said she had purchased the dumplings. Meanwhile, the dumplings from the stall that tested positive for bacteria were made of pork, but the shop identified by the vendor is run by Muslims and makes only chicken dumplings.
