Hi seniors and all members,

I previously started a thread requesting information on healthcare that thai citizens are entitled to. I now am fully aware that all thai citizens are covered under the universal healthcare aka 30 baht scheme where they can be registered to a hospital near an area they stay.

However, in order to supplement that, i am thinking of purchasing an insurance policy for my thai friend.

Did a little bit of research and have narrowed down my option to AXA Thailand. For about 40,000 baht premium per year they offer up to 5,000,000 in inpatient cover and this is direct billing at their list of hospitals.

Can anyone who has experience in Thai insurance recommend or comment on AXA Thailand??

It depends on how much money you want to waste on insurances here. Personally, I would rather choose Muang Thai Insurance. They are relatively straight forward and you don't need pay the hospital upfront. However, they are expensive too. You can limit the cost by excluding outpatient cover. Most of the time that's not worth it anyway, since a hospital visit isn't so expensive here, as long as you don't choose the most exclusive hospital.

You could also check insurance policies with Kasikorn Bank. They are cheaper, but don't cover of course everything. For example, you could take out an insurance for cancer or accidents, etc...

Good luck
