and get sick on rancid street food

Oh really, where? Nothing bad about the street food I, and other residents in our apartment block, regularly purchase locally here in Siem Reap! All ingredients kept in ice cabinets and freshly cooked to order.

Later on in the article it says "A statement issued by the Inter-Ministerial Committee to Combat COVID-19 said that Cambodians holding foreign passports with the K Visa will be exempted from paying health insurance and the $3,000 deposit as well as the lab test, undertaking quarantine and forking out for treatment."

Quite some visa that....

Comical. With these restrictions only those who are super rich or need to be in Cambodia will go there.

Yep. And you can also count out the super rich. People with money generally don't go to Cambodia - there are far better places that are clean and have decent local food.

I think perhaps @LomSak27 might have been exaggerating - I've eaten street food in PP and SR, but the quality and choice was nowhere even close to that in Thailand. But then I'd say that about Khmer / Cambodian food in general. Of course there's a magnificent choice of restaurant food in Cambo, so down to personal taste. I once said to someone that it's like eating in Europe at Asian prices...that was in 2013, by the way.

Good luck with that ????

Next : deposit 5 liter of your blood in case of hospitalization, and bring one member of your family in permanent quarantine for guaranty too.

Do not think, it's for your safety !

USA to Phnom Penh Travel Experience (if there is a better thread for this info feel free)

My first flights was scheduled to depart at 0600 on a Tuesday.

I arranged for a COVID swab as well as antibody test on Saturday, 3 days before my flight.

I received the antibody test results on Monday.
I scheduled another antibody test with a clinic, which looked cheap, but they had a paper where at least the nurses signature indicated a Negative test result. It took 10 minutes.

I emailed the for from the clinic to the embassy and they stated:

“Received and thank you. Please also share with us you experiences of the travel from US to Cambodia once you have entered such as the procedures you have to go through if possible so that we can share it with other future travelers.”

I went to my doctor for a letter as well, but she declined to provide me with a statement that I was “negative” without the swab results.

Monday at midnight I drove to my departure airport with my antibody tests hoping that the form and lab results would be enough to get me on the flight, and I could then print off my swab results in DTW or ICN.

At 0200 by swab results came to me electronically, so I messaged my doctor for a formal letter with signature and hospital letterhead stating I was Negative.

0630 agents came out and started checking us in. They asked to see COVID test paperwork, but had no idea what they were looking at. They didn’t know the difference between PCR and antibody test. I also had to show my form for $50k medical insurance coverage and Visa.

All restaurants and snack places were closed. The bathrooms were as clean as I have ever seen them.

At the gate an agent called to reinspect my documents to verify COVID test, $50k insurance and that I had a Visa. Apparently they’ve been having a lot of problems with people being sent back from Cambodia.

Once in DTW I went to the SKY lounge to print my PCR results and get the note from my doctor. I faxed her the test paperwork and waited for her letter specifying a Negative COVID test on hospital letterhead.

I received a message from my doctor’s nurse that she received the results and were writing the letter.

After a short call where they wanted to mail the letter to me and I explained to them that my flight leaves in 10 minutes, I received an email, printed the document and made it to my flight right before boarding.

At the gate you must fill out a COVID questionnaire for South Korea, however we don’t have to pass through customs since we are on our way to Cambodia.

On arrival into South Korea my COVID test paperwork, visa and insurance document were checked again. I was then escorted down the hall and directed toward the train for the terminal transfer.

The yellow and white papers on which I filled out my passport and trip information went to no one.

I made my way to my next gate. I didn’t pass through any customs or immigration. I did have my carryon scanned between the terminals. At the gate they checked my documents again and took photos of them to send to their manager. I then boarded the plane for Phnom Penh.

Once in Phnom Penh I got off the plane and headed toward immigration. A couple of guys were getting hung up for not having a Cambodian contact number in their documents. I used a friend’s or the hotel’s depending on the question. They wanted to see my COVID test and insurance as well. Next station was money about 50 feet away. It consists of some picnic tables and equipment to process card transactions. Make sure you are approved for a “cash advance” because that is how they key it in. Once past money I went to another station (another 25 feet) where someone reviewed my papers (COVID, insurance and that I paid) before going to the actual immigration station.

At immigration (another 25 feet) he took all my documents and scanned in some. He kept my passport and the doctors letters. He returned my COVID test results and cash advance receipt. I grabbed my checked bags. Once I passed through “nothing to declare” it was onto a COVID test. They asked if I had symptoms and where I was going to stay, then stabbed my brain. I then went into the bus with my bags.

We were given a police escort to the hotel. I had to pay $80 for the hotel room. Some people looked to be coming into and out of the hotel, so security was a questionable concept. By evening the next day we were released to go where we wanted. I received my passport at checkout.

Hope this helps everyone. The form from the doctor with signatures and dates seemed like a barrier to most people. I did not get the feeling that the type of test was scrutinized comparatively.

truly aimed for long term expats NOT tourists

Self-isolation at the address you supplied upon arrival. Not permitted to leave, local officials can conduct random checks.

Test on 13th day at the Khmer-Soviet Hospital or Chak Angre Medical centre if in PP, if outside of PP at your provincial hospital.

Take negative test result to bank when applying for the refund.

This should eliminate about 99% of the tourist from ever going to Cambodia.....

Unless this insane amount of hoop jumping is vastly scaled back......Tourism in Cambodia is finished forever...
