The key sentence seems to be: “General Somsak said that members had agreed to extend the state of emergency for another month to prevent a second wave of contagion after schools reopen next week.”

How? Simple question. How will extending the state of emergency prevent the spread of covid, which we are told over and over again is now defeated in this land, in schools.

I would prefer answers from Prayut fanboys.

Yes. No need to come to our own conclusions. The Phu Yai know best.

None of us really knows what the virus will do next. We have been very lucky so far in Thailand, when compared with what has happened in other countries. I would be inclined to give the government the benefit of the doubt.

The government says there is no domestic covid in Thailand so political control is the only motivation

Good job from Khun Prayut Chan O Cha and his government.

Minimize transmission risk and prevent any further issues moving forward.

The autocrats true loyalty is obvious from his choice of clothing. The coup lives on in the military’s control of this government and obsession to crush any dissent. Can’t wait to hear about the 3rd wave and the 4th wave.

democracy in Thailand does not exist.

Makes good sense

Opening Bars and Banning Pool And Darts which ensures automatic 2 mt distancing is tantamount amount to ludicrous  .. Sense and common are words not in common used here .. Now if you use the words Joke and Laughable then maybe your post is relevant

Whatever you do, ban international flights to and from America till the BLM protestors are under control. They are planning to carry their message to other countries regardless of consequences.

If you controlthe media, the money, the politics and the military, then you control the whole system.

It is important for the government to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of any lie, and therefore by extension,  the truth is the greatest enemy of this government.

Prayut strategy during the pandemic is better organised than America for sure. I'm glad to be here than at home. I feel safer here than at home with the BLM protestors destroying random property.

Why is it every liberal politician in the world is saying think of the elderly and young. They all have the same narrative and yes it is politically motivated it's plain to see now. These govts are trying to change the playing field. Why on earth would pm prayut come out in his general uniform?

One of the few countries without an emergency decides to just make one up.  Totally a p u s s  way to run from protests.

Me too.

BA cancelled a planned flight for April and I have now cancelled the rebooked flights for August. Sharing your sentiment I have decided that U.K./Europe is out for this year and I will reconsider booking 2021 in 6 months time.

The holiday budget for 2020 has been diverted to home improvements......... the missus is happy.

I quess you like being in a dictatorship. You like the leader coming out in his uniform so you know whose boss?

certain people get their rocks off on control

He says the lockdown can be ended anytime things 'return to normal'.   Doesn't he realize there isn't going to be a 'return to normal' anytime soon--probably for years?  If he is waiting for a 'return to normal' we will be in for a never ending lockdown.   Extending the lockdown month after month is not going to help us get to what is going to be a new normal.

Its all about control. Control the population Well done Mr virus you served your purpose well. It gave the government the excuse to control the people.

I don't bother labeling politics that don't apply to me. Honestly I have no desire figuring out politics in Thailand.

I would hope BLM pulls a stunt in Thailand. I'd be curious to see what happens. I'm sure those BLM folks would be flagged from the start

The results proofs that the government is doing the right thing!

Is entering a 7/11 and writing your name down considered a covid19 test?

Then they did a lot of testing...

That’s to help with tracking in case you get it later

I do because I have a wife their I'm trying to get back to. All these govts all reading from the same script over and over you don't find that odd?

Exactly! Just wondering why Thailand's leaders need so much more control (it would appear) than Vietnam's Communist leaders?

It sure looks like there's more freedom in Vietnam these days! Apparently when they re-opened the schools in May, they did the temperature check and hand sanitizer for just a week and have since stopped!

Masks are officially still compulsory, but no idea if they're still being enforced!

Masks are only enforced at supermarkets and the airports!
