Take a look at what's happened in the US in the last 24 hrs, spreading even more quickly and very big numbers.

The US has not had 31 free C19 days!

The key sentence seems to be: “General Somsak said that members had agreed to extend the state of emergency for another month to prevent a second wave of contagion after schools reopen next week.”

is your expat life so bad with this Emergency decree.  what are you missing?  tired of drinking alone in your 30 sq m condo?

it seem like a strategy  to make one big change at a time.

Start of school will  be a big  change.

if no spike in cases from kids back at school  thai parents  will be quite happy.   If bars opened at the same time and a spike occurred it may get  blamed on bars and result in a new longer shutdown.  you whiners  sound like a bunch of  spoiled brat sissies.

Not surprising at all. It makes very little difference to most of us here now as pretty much everything has / is returning to normal in terms of going out.

There are obviously hidden motives behind extending it though. A certain establishment needs to be out of the news for a while and stopping protests and political gatherings will unfortunately help that situation.

Need to control those unruly student protesters.

When I decided 20 years ago, to live permanently in Thailand, I knew that 9 coups d'etat had already taken place, and that there was no reason it would stop there.

The actual state of emergency ( Imperium In Imperio ) will not easily been given up.

I can live with this, I abide since 2000.

Once it will become too much  to undergo, in my opinion,

and providing I can,

I will buy a one way ticket.

It should be quite apparent to most citizens & especially to Those in Power that the maintainence of the Lockdown & Emergency measures have caused the destruction of the economy and the subsequent impact of these measures will far outstrip the consequences of the Virus impact.

Hopefully It should be obvious that these processes are a deliberate action to globally reset the economy brought on by Globalist favoured governments, to allow the change the very democratic relationship ( draconian , autocratic social Eng) to its citizens .This is the real threat, its No longer the Virus that is the eminent threat, its the globalist threat of social enslavement

Oh, I give them doubt alright. Without the benefit.

Thaiwrath, you may well be correct, I for one can't argue. What seems strange to me, is the fact that almost every government in the world, with few exceptions, are following the same general principal. Also seems rather strange that the majority of these countries are lifting restrictions at the same time, exceptions in this case being the America's. I am following the rules because it is expected, but have to say I'm skeptical of the necessity.

There are bound to be a few Covid cases in a "second wave". Perfect excuse for the Government to close everything again.

I would hope BLM pulls a stunt in Thailand. I'd be curious to see what happens. I'm sure those BLM folks would be flagged from the start

The topic of Asian countries  are marked at home as racist and mistreatment towards them in general. China and Thailand seem to be poorly recieved by them in America.

Quite an arrogant reply.

You must be convinced of your own superiority. Or is it that you don't like the poster, nothing to do with the topic?

Try to accept the existence of opinions or behaviour you do not necessarily agree with.

Talking about arrogance...

Of course there is a virus!

What the emergency decree will change or do about that, is the question!

They’ve found the right formula to handle Wuhan virus:  stop testing.  No new cases, no more deaths.

Yes, I agree, although I don't think it is global - this bunch simply don't do global. Their horizons go no further than the very wealthy (a.k.a. very influential) people at the top of the economic tree; the ones who put them in place, and who keep them in place. Any international aspect is limited to keeping in the good books of those who rule China. Beyond that, it is all a sea of fog to them.

But you are right about destroying the economy (more particularly the little people's economy), in order to reorder society.

The new normal. The new feudal.

It's not mentioned what year they are talking of..... ????????????

This is about pure POWER and not about the well-being of the Thai people. Once rights and liberties are taken away, they are only give back grudgingly.  This certainly applies universally and not just to Thailand. It is just a different place and a different people. Study History!

and gives officials legal immunity over human rights violations

Wow!! May I ask what Human Rights are being violated by Thai Officials that affect foreigners during the coronavirus pandemic??

Quote:-

International Bill of Rights
  • The right to equality and freedom from discrimination.
  • The right to life, liberty, and personal security.
  • Freedom from torture and degrading treatment.
  • The right to equality before the law.
  • The right to a fair trial.
  • The right to privacy.
  • Freedom of belief and religion.
  • Freedom of opinion.

In my opinion, there is one - Anutin's comments about "dirty Westerners" (freedom from discrimination).

I'm guessing with schools re-opening and bars etc given the green light to open they are keeping the emergency in place just in case things go pear-shaped and they have to back-track quickly.

However if come the end of July and nothing is reported then it must stop.

None of us really knows what the virus will do next. We have been very lucky so far in Thailand, when compared with what has happened in other countries. I would be inclined to give the government the benefit of the doubt.

Quite correct. just look USA. ,Uk. ,now over40,000 dead. ,i am not one. ,but if your one that gets this Virus its life changing ,it does come back. ,you loose. your taste and are always tired. ,yes. had my run days. ,now only wish to sleep. ,,,,,,live and  bad. ,die. ,never tried that ,looking in from europe.   thailand.  ,doing good job ,looking at the UK.  it truly Bad

Yes, the membership of the "if you don't like it, go home" brigade has decreased greatly with a lot of their members moving to the "scared of your own shadow" brigade instead. ????

I am still waiting for any evidence of a Pandemic in Thailand !!!

3,000 cases is NOT a Pandemic ! It's not even an Epidemic ... you can't even call it something serious.

All they have done is to avoid a Pandemic that might have happened ...

According to many scientists around the world including the WHO, the CDC, the German and British Governments,

the Italian Government and many more, the "Covid-19" scare is far less dangerous than all newspapers write.

Mortality rate is around 0.2% !!!

Asymptomic people don't spread the Virus according to the WHO !!!

So ... what are people scared about ?

Easy answer: A fully made up fake story by Governments and the Media that is now confirmed to be fake !!!

Look at the real Science .... not the one from the BBC or CNN or the Nation  ... not from "experts" ... but from Scientists

that have a proven record of being right about things !!!

What emergency? Ridiculous. Government control freaks are loving this!
