The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) will resume services of 40 long-distance and tourism trains from tomorrow (July 1), in line with the government’s easing of Covid-19 lockdown measures, SRT governor Nirut Maneephan said today.

These are the trains:

1. 34 long-distance trains nationwide:

> 10 trains on the Northern route

> 14 trains on the Northeastern route

> 10 trains on the Southern route

2. Six tourism trains:

> Train 909/910, Bangkok-Nam Tok-Bangkok

> Train 911/912, Bangkok-Sea Pine Garden-Bangkok

> Train 997/998, Bangkok-Ban Plu Ta Luang-Bangkok

The SRT also announced that four special trains services would be suspended from tomorrow: train 9071 (Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani), train 9075 (Bangkok-Nong Khai), train 9072 (Ubon Ratchathani-Bangkok) and train 9076 (Nong Khai-Bangkok).

“Passengers must wear face masks at all times and maintain social distancing while using trains,” Nirut said. “The SRT will sell tickets at 50 per cent of each train’s capacity and will not allow the selling of food on board. Passengers on long-distance trains can bring their own food.

“Passengers are also encouraged to check in and out via the Thai Chana application by scanning a QR code sticker that will be placed in all carriages to help trace Covid-19,” he added.

From a railway enthusiast's point of view (mine), this is good news (with due respect) as this service traverses the Thailand - Burma "Death Railway" via Kanchanaburi. From Nam Tok, you will have to take a taxi or bus to visit the museum and memorial at Hell Fire Pass.

get ready, prepare the beds and the medication

Covid 19 death rate of less than 0.5 %, less than any given flu season. 90 % of the ones who died were multiple morbid and over 80.   Guess most of them died with Covid not because of Covid. And people panicing and <deleted>ting in their pants. Ruining economies will cost far more lives than Covid 19.

Afraid of what ?   To die ?   You'll die anyway.  Sooner or later, for sure.
