BANGKOK (NNT) - Six members of parliament (MPs) representing the ruling Palang Pracharath Party have visited Nong Chok district in Bangkok to establish an understanding with residents affected by the weir construction project. A meeting of the House of Representatives will discuss the issue before the city planning law is amended.

The six Palang Pracharath members, including party-list MP Watanya Wongopasi and constituency MPs Siripong Rassamee, Korranit Ngamsukonratana, Pada Vorakanon, Thitipas Chotedechachainan and Thanikan Pornpongsaroj, visited a community in Nong Chok to record people’s complaints, after many residents voiced their objections to the weir construction project.

Ms. Watanya said water from the Saen Saeb canal has entered Nong Chok district, causing land erosion for many years. The MPs visited the area to acknowledge people’s problems. A number of residents expressed concern that the weir construction project would harm the local way of life and the canal landscape setting.

The House meeting next week will consider a proposal to set up an extraordinary commission on law enforcement issues in Bangkok in connection with the development of public and private property.

The meeting will consider a new city planning law, which will be submitted to the Ministry of the Interior. It will focus on public complaints about the construction of high-rise buildings. The issue is deemed urgent, and will be tabled at the House meeting.
