13-Year-Old Stabs 12-Year-Old in the Neck Following Dispute
Picture from responders. A 12-year-old boy sustained serious injuries after being stabbed in the neck by a 13-year-old on a rural road in Bueng Kan province. The victim is now recovering in hospital, while police have detained the suspect. The incident occurred at approximately 19:30 on January 2, along Rural Road 4001, between Nong To and Na Sawan villages in Mueang Bueng Kan District. According to reports, the victim, identified as "Earth," was riding his motorcycle when he encountered the suspect, "Artie," who attacked him with a knife. Police and emergency services were alerted when the victim's mother, Ms. Sriratna, 41, filed a complaint. She reported that her son was stabbed during the altercation and rushed to Bueng Kan Hospital, where doctors performed surgery. His condition has since stabilised but remains under close medical observation. Police investigators, led by Pol. Col. Chaiyut Thammasuna, Deputy Chief of Bueng Kan Provincial Police, and Pol. Sub-Lt. Wisanuchai Karom, launched an inquiry into the incident. They apprehended the suspect at his residence and seized a 2.5-inch knife believed to have been used in the attack, along with a motorcycle. The suspect, due to his age, is being handled in accordance with juvenile legal procedures. Preliminary accounts suggest that the incident stemmed from a prior disagreement. Witnesses at the scene, including two of the victim's friends, aged 16 and 15, recounted that the group had earlier visited the market to buy food. On their way back, they encountered the suspect, who was pushing his motorcycle. After stopping to speak with the suspect, the victim parked his motorcycle a few metres away. The suspect initially approached the victim's older friends but then turned back and stabbed the victim in the neck before fleeing. The victim's friends rushed him to a nearby health centre, where he was later transferred to hospital. Ms. Sriratna expressed relief that her son's condition has improved, noting that he has regained consciousness. Doctors are monitoring the deep wound, which stretches from beneath his right ear to near the collarbone. Further scans will determine whether there is internal bleeding. Authorities are continuing their investigation and will question both parties, witnesses, and the suspect's guardians in coordination with child protection services. The suspect is expected to face charges once the inquiry concludes. -- 2025-01-04 -

Hotel Worker Killed in Collision on First Day Back After New Year’s Holiday
Picture from responders. A 50-year-old hotel employee tragically lost his life in a road crash on the Asian Highway in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya while riding his motorcycle against traffic on his first day back at work after the New Year holiday. The crash occurred on January 3, at kilometre marker 33 in Kwan Mueang Subdistrict, Bang Pahan District. Police and rescue services were alerted to the scene by Piyapong Sirijarayatham, an investigating officer from Bang Pahan Police Station. At the site, officers found a severely damaged black Honda Wave motorcycle, registration from Ayutthaya, by the roadside. Nearby was an overturned black Mitsubishi pickup truck, registration Ngor from Chonburi, with extensive damage. Another motorcycle, which had been in the truck bed, was also damaged. The body of the motorcyclist, identified as Mr. Samat, was discovered on the road with multiple serious injuries. Mr. Amphol, 38, the driver of the pickup truck, told police he was driving from Bangkok to Phichit to deliver a motorcycle to his mother. He admitted that while reaching for a coffee can, he looked up to find the motorcyclist riding against traffic directly in his path. Despite attempting to avoid the collision, he struck the motorcycle, causing both vehicles to veer off the road., with the pickup ending up in a field off the road. The victim’s wife and son arrived at the scene visibly distraught. They explained that Mr. Samat worked at a hotel in Ayutthaya and had left home that morning to return to work after the holiday. He had reportedly ridden against traffic to reach a U-turn beneath a nearby bridge when the accident occurred. Police documented the crash scene and collected evidence, including skid marks and debris. The pickup driver has been taken in for further questioning as part of the ongoing investigation. -- 2025-01-04 -

American on Dirt Bike Kills Thai Woman Crossing Road in Chiang Mai
On my first trip to Thailand I decided that I would not drive or ride a motorcycle on the roads because I felt it was not safe to do so. Over the years I have discovered that being a pedestrian is just as dangerous.
