WHO advance team heads to China to set up probe into coronavirus origin

GENEVA (Reuters) - A two-member advance team of World Health Organization (WHO) experts has left for China to organise an investigation into the origins of the novel coronavirus behind a pandemic that has killed more than 550,000 people globally, the U.N. agency said on Friday.

The virus is believed to have emerged in a wholesale market in the central Chinese city of Wuhan late last year after jumping the species barrier from the animal kingdom to infect humans.

The two WHO experts, specialists in animal health and epidemiology, will work with Chinese scientists to determine the scope and itinerary of the investigation, WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris said, declining to name them.

"We know it's very, very similar to the virus in the bat, but did it go through an intermediate species? This is a question we all need answered," Harris told a news briefing.

WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus later told a news conference: "Two WHO experts are currently en route to China to meet with fellow scientists and learn about the progress made in understanding the animal reservoir for COVID-19 and how the disease jumped between animals and humans."

He added, "This will help lay the groundwork for the WHO-led international mission into the origins."

COVID-19 is the respiratory disease caused by the virus.

The United States, the WHO's largest WHO donor, this week notified the agency that it was withdrawing in a year's time after accusing it of being too close to China and not doing enough to question Beijing's actions at the start of the crisis.

"We view the scientific investigation as a necessary step to having a complete and transparent understanding of how this virus has spread throughout the world," Andrew Bremberg, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, said in a statement to Reuters.

"We expect that the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) will offer the team of scientists full access to data, samples, and localities, and look forward to its timely report," Bremberg said.

U.S. President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have said the pathogen may have originated in a laboratory in Wuhan, although they have presented no evidence for this and China has denied it. Scientists and U.S. intelligence agencies have said it emerged in nature.

It is no longer believed it came from the market as the earliest patients never went there nor knew anyone who did.

So they send two animal experts. They need to send virology lab experts.

These two people are there to negotiate the terms for a larger group to investigate the where, how, when

of the origins . It would be nice to believe the CCP will allow that unhindered.

As mentioned it has already been established the Wuhan market was not the location of initial infection despite the populist perpetuation of that claim.

This is a chance for China to provide full unhindered cooperation to WHO and repair their battered international image on the origin and handling of COVID-19. China owes the world and to themselves to present truth and facts.

A waste of time as China will never even come close to admitting the truth…but instead will assist the ‘experts’ by telling them, in precise detail, what the WHO ‘findings’ will be.

And after much wining, dining, smiling, pretend social distancing, and bogus camaraderie…the ‘experts’ will receive lavish praise from their new comrades for mindlessly parroting whatever narrative China tells them to mindlessly parrot.

This plague has proven the WHO to be little more than a timid Chinese lapdog…afraid of its master...and performing tricks on command.

Chinese virologist in hiding after accusing Beijing of coronavirus cover-up

A respected Chinese virologist who says she did some of the earliest research into COVID-19 last year has accused Beijing of lying about when it learned of the deadly virus and engaging in an extensive cover-up of her work, according to a new report.

In a new interview with Fox News, Dr. Li-Meng Yan says her supervisors at the Hong Kong School of Public Health, a reference laboratory for the World Health Organization, silenced her when she sounded the alarm about human-to-human transmission in December last year.

In April, Yan fled Hong Kong and escaped to America to raise awareness about the pandemic, the report said. She told Fox News she is now living in hiding in the US and fears for her life.

Unfortunately the fate of so many which make the mistake to tell the truth without asking the CCP for permission first.

I‘m happy for her that she could escape and survive. Sadly, many others just disappeared.

Since early January Chinese scientists cannot publish about SARS-CoV-2 without going through the CCP first. Someone seems to be scared of what information might get out again through scientists, which might think about science instead of politics.

Where is Dr. Who when you need him...... Image result for dr. who gifs

She is a world renowned virologist from Hong Kong's top SARS laboratory and widely published in top Western Journals like The Lancet and Nature.

See here: https://muckrack.com/li-meng-yan/articles

If you remember, Hong Kong is a world leader in SARS research precisely because they  suffered from CCP lies and cover-up of the first SARS epidemic.

Expect away, Eric.

Don’t let reality get in the way of good old fashioned wishful thinking.

"advance team" = clean-up team... hooray

I would start at the American funded virology lab in Wuhan, based on the old adage "He who smelled it dealt it" !

WHO officials arriving at Beijing Airport???

Whats left of it. It is well documented that serious evidence was destroyed.

Herded by a tout waving a flag through thoroughly sanitized showrooms?

China has destroyed all evidence by now.

There was an article in the news the other day where the U.S. FBI director publicly claimed that China has been engaging in a broad campaign of threats and extortion to force Chinese expats living abroad who have been critical of the government to return home, through means such as allegedly threatening their family members/friends still in China.

So China is investigating its self then.

Watched the job interview for the head of WHO and unable to answer one single question yet got the job!!! His history is shocking and criminal but, but, but. Wish my own government would have the Balls to stop funding CCP propaganda wing.

I think he means: " We HOPE that the CCP..."m It's hard not to be convinced that any final conclusion will not be correct and it will be in China's favor.

An authoritarian regime accountable to no one , works so well here we will surely see full disclosre, wrongdoers named shamed and jailed and err, no monkey business.

The lead investigator is traditionally the Mountain 541 triad roughly translated as the Wathcman. The regime is so fragile that the term Pooh Bear is forbidden yet powerful enough to enslave , members of free churches trade unions,Falung gong , Tibetans Uighurs. Meanwhile democratic China i.e Taiwan is barred from WHO talks in what has become under their Ethiopian puppet an apoligist for slavery.
