Buddhachinaraj Hospital has revealed that five people who returned from Rayong to Phitsanulok provinces showed no infection, after they had visited D Varee Diva Central Rayong, the hotel where an infected Egyptian soldier had stayed.

Dr Suchat Porncharoenpong, the hospital director, said that the five persons had, however, been ordered to quarantine at home for 14 days, until July 25.

Also, he warned people to be careful, urging everyone to practice the new-normal measures regularly.

On Monday (July 13), the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration informed that one new case in Thailand was an Egyptian soldier, who had travelled with a military crew to on July 8.

He and the crew reportedly visited a Rayong shopping and community area. They left their hotel on July 9 and travelled to China on an unspecified military mission via U-Tapao Airport.

They returned to Thailand the same day. On July 10, the crew of 31 got tested. However, they were allowed to go home on July 11 though their Covid-19 test results were not confirmed.

The soldier was found positive on July 12.

Were those 5 people performing personal services for the Egyptians?

  • I've just spent three weeks driving around half the country. I've got a slightly different perspective.

Any new infections that come from this will make the government look even worse.

Let's hope people are tested properly and any positive results are forthcoming.

Not really. I didn't contradict you. I just added another factor for consideration.

That's why only 5 were singled out?

They didn't just visit the hotel.

Then just sent home to isolate.

It wasn't a quarantine hotel.

The soldiers just went on short holiday.

Think you missed the point....!!!!?

There will be no infections, the soldier was asymptomatic and the only positive among all the group.

Stop the paranoia.

My observation is 99% of Thai's are wearing masks appropriately, although a little difficult when eating in restaurants.

It slips a bit the further out into the country you go, maybe 70%, but its higher than most places in the world still. Thai's are genuinely petrified of this, which has helped.

In what way please expand

Exactly, the transmission of coronaviruses by asymptomatic people to others is very rare, this is generally accepted by WHO etc.

Really? Sounds like they haven't got a clue on whether it does or not...

Should be state quarantine to make sure they do not come into contact with family/friends who have the freedom to move around.

There is an abundance of contradictory information out there, however, it was found that previous coronaviruses were rarely transmitted to other due to the fact that asymptomatic people are, by the very nature, not showing any symptoms, so not coughing, sneezing etc. etc and have a relatively low viral load.

Quote

The main driver of transmission, based on currently available data, is symptomatic cases. WHO is aware of possible transmission of 2019-nCoV from infected people before they developed symptoms. Detailed exposure histories are being taken to better understand the pre-clinical phase of infection and how transmission may have occurred in these few instances. Asymptomatic infection may be rare, and transmission from an asymptomatic person is very rare with other coronaviruses, as we have seen with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus. Thus, transmission from asymptomatic cases is likely not a major driver of transmission. Persons who are symptomatic will spread the virus more readily through coughing and sneezing.

We, as a race, are learning daily from the virus, the figures banded around are that up to 40% of people are asymptomatic.

Pattaya isn't Thailand, luckily...

Actually it seems the asymptomatics may be as high as 80%

Where in the name of Buddha did this home quarantine come from? It's never been an option on the official list. I had hoped the government was contrite after this fiasco, but it seems they're rapidly losing the plot.

As mentioned already, it's not a quarantine hotel.

Also - the Thai people were bit there to visit the soldiers. They were there as guests.

True but neither are many places on their own, however it is one of the major tourist places therefore should be a good example for the difference between Farangs & Thai's do you not think ............!!!!
