China suspends two Thailand flights over COVID-19 cases

The suspension of the two flights will last for one week, starting July 20, and is the second of its kind ever imposed on overseas airlines.

 

BEIJING, July 15 (Xinhua) -- China's civil aviation regulator has announced that a Thai Lion Air's Bangkok-Guangzhou flight, as well as a Thai AirAsia X's Bangkok-Tianjin flight, would be suspended after several passengers tested positive for COVID-19 on recent flights.

 

Six passengers tested positive on Thai Lion Air's SL117 flight on July 7, while there were five positive cases on Thai AirAsia X's XJ808 flight on July 10, according to a statement posted Wednesday on the website of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

I thought Thailand was covid-19 free, maybe it was Egyptians or Sudanese on the flight????

How bizarre so many cases on flights originating in a covid free zone to the land that gave us the covid in the first place maybe a general can explain.  we are waiting Mr PM????

I never thought that. Why? Very limited testing here.

This just validates what we have all suspected...Thailand has covid people running around untested...and unreported. 

So its all " smoke and mirrors " the figures being put out by THAILAND on Covid19.

 

No doubt, another load of rubbish in Cambodia's figures as well, otherwise the borders would be open.

 

I mean if both countries have no cases, how can Covid19 possibly spread? unless somebody is lying! shock...horror!

 

So this news also pours cold water on all those on TVF promoting closed borders because of the wonderful job being done by the government and preventing Coronavirus from entering Thailand,

 

It also makes a mockery of the OTT reaction in Rayong suspending flights etc when what should have been done was to check the testing and quarantine arrangements.

There was a poster saying it was a 2-leg flight Indonesia-DMK-China. So could have been Indo passengers only among the infected.

So...what about the Thai crews and staff and families of and on these airlines ? ????

Seems strange. Should be testing of the same calibre performed at both ends.

 

Could be getting caught inflight?

The Chinese might not be as strict as the Thais and check only at their end.

The wheels on the bus called Thailand are starting to fall off.  The hidden covid cases and non testing have come back to bite them in the butt. It all started with the group of Cambodians they deported and now it continues. However, Thailand will say it is from foreigners and not from in the country whence this came.

Hang on i thought Thailand was covid free ?!

Looks like these were transit flights and no one got the planes according to Richard Barrow.

Be careful with this story doing the rounds. Apparently the plane was only in transit in Bangkok and the 11 infected people came from Indonesia/Philippines. They most likely never left the plane.

This one needs a lot more fleshing out. In theory, if it really were a tranist flight, then no one would be allowed to deplane at BKK, but people would be able to board. So, those infected, may have boarded at BKK, or at the original departure points.

 

It looks like SL 117 does fly CGK-BKK and BKK-CAN
 

I couldn't match up a Thai Air Asia X flight from the Philippines to DMK, to line up with the DMK-TSN, it may exist I couldn't find it.

 

I assume these were Chinese nationals returning home?

The Lion Air flight transited through Bangkok DMK. If no-one got on or off, seems a bit pointless unless it was a technical stop to refuel (although 737-900 easily has the range to fly Jakarta-Guangzhou direct). 

 

 

The Air Asia X flight shows it originated in Bangkok (DMK) so the question is: who boarded? Transit passengers? Or people starting journey from Thailand (Chinese going home)?

 

 

The Lion Air crew may be Jakarta-based. What about the Air Asia crew?

 

Personally I'd rather there was more evidence of extensive infection already present in the general community in Thailand so we can just get on with things now. The hysteria over the Egyptian group and the Sudanese diplomat is ridiculous. Closing a school because it's 'near' the condo where the Sudanese stayed. <deleted>!

I've got it, the CV-19 virus is hiding in the clouds and penetrates the aircraft when in flight therefore no signs of the disease upon take-off only on landing QED ..............LOL

No different than the 23 Burmese workers going home & all test positive at the Burma border arriving from Thailand

It more than likely is also punishment for the Egyptians flying into China from Thailand as well and one of them testing positive.  Who knows how many others that repatriated from Thailand to there home countries were tested and found to have Covid on arrival.  This is one thing that never makes it in the news here.

I am just wondering why would China ban Thai planes from landing, because if these were transit flights that makes little sense.

Well then tell me why Yinn, the Chinese shut out the two flights and Thailand from flying in for the next week if no one deplaned in Thailand as they were transit flights.  Additionally, Why do we never hear of others unlike the Cambodians who were sent back as testing positive.  Could it be that that news is also filtered at the highest levels.  Just questions here and not attacks.

They went to Rayong before

Thai AirAsia X A330 with registration HS-XTE originated in KL on July 10.  2:07 layover at DMK.

 

 

Thai Lion SL117 departed Jakarta on the 6th and arrived at Guangzhou on the 7th.  1:06 layover at DMK.

Didn't see you posted this first.  The Air Asia flight originated in KL.
