PM admits it is unfortunate that Dr. Somkid and his team left the Government

Thailand’s Prime Minister, Prayut Chan-o-cha, admitted today (Thursday) that it was a shame that Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak and his four-man economic team has left the Government adding, however, that their departures were necessary under the present circumstances.

He promised to do his best to shuffle the Cabinet as quickly as possible, in order not to leave a political vacuum for too long, hinting that the new lineup will be announced next month.

When asked about reports of opposition, from some members of the ruling Palang Pracharat party, to Mr. Pairin Chuchotethavorn replacing Dr. Somkid and assuming the energy portfolio, in place of Mr. Sontirat Sontijirawong, the Prime Minister asked “Why?  What’s the problem? I will make the decision myself. Trust me. I feel relieved today. There is no problem. Today, we parted amicably.”

I think Prayut himself will find, pretty soon, that his departure will be necessary under the present circumstances. The sooner the better, for the country.

New cabinet to be announced soon Khun Prayut Chan O Cha will do what needs to be done.  Somkid Jatusripitak was one of the better one's in that group however I don't think our PM is too concerned

"uncle" P will take some shifting from his lofty perch unfortunately...he really believes no one is more qualified to run the country than himself...????

Pity Somkid has left, he was the only 1 who was any use, the others are all full of hot air, and sod all else.

Yes. We should have kept Yingluck as PM. She did such a good job reading scripts and answering questions from reporters.

I cannot imagine what kind of pandemonium Thailand would be in, if she was at the helm.

Somkid Jatusripitak was one of the better one's in that group however I don't think our PM is too concerned as it's his hard work, dedication and decision making that has moved the country forward over the past 6 years. He is our leader and he is doing the job as required.

Move over for full regime control. There is certainly more to this story now that Somkid is out.

Amicable I have a hard time believing. Relieved? Why? Because of Somkids head is now out of his rear-end? What nonsense from ole fathead and his regime. It is extremely impossible to believe anything that comes out of his mouth. Easiest way to understand him is like: If he says white then you know its black. If he says amicable then it must be hostile. .

Unfortunate  but  necessary?  So did they walk or were they pushed?

She certainly did do a better job.

At least she did not resort to throwing banana skins, threatening journalists, touching them inappropriately and putting cardboard cutouts out to answer questions he can't or doesn't want to answer.

Can't disagree with the sentiment but is there anyone in the ruling party that would do a better job? I'd rather see Prayut continue until there's enough discontent for an election, though another coup is a more likely scenario if that happens!

How about replace these 5 elderly males for 5 Younger females.

looks like the Baht did not like the economic prospects of the economic team leaving and shrank some more giving the BOT fits.

I doubt that, it looks like normal intra-day movement when there's a change in personal or news. And given the economic climate at present a weakening of THB is actually desirable so I imagine BOT is quite pleased.

And getting ready to cut the basis point again. So since you read this economic news and reports for dissemination to others, tell me why the economy is contracting since you have said before its recovering and jobs growing. Or maybe I misread your writings on the different sub forums.

I'm not sure that I've ever said the economy is recovering and jobs growing although that sort of statement is more about what context any statement may have been made. The economy is not a single unit, it is comprised of lots of small pieces, pieces of it grow just as other parts of it shrink, even in today's environment.

The link you provided says the Thai economy may shrink by 5% this year, BOT says it will shrink by at least 8.1% and I suspect that figure will be adjusted later, 10% wouldn't surprise. Why is it shrinking? Tourism is down, exports are down, supply chains are broken, importing countries are closed etc etc.

"Cut the basis points again" - BOT's MPC may well cut the base rate again but I think that's window dressing, it's nearly at zero anyway so the effect is minimal.

I cannot imagine what kind of pandemonium Thailand would be in, if she was at the helm.

Indeed: imagine, we might have had a continuous state of emergency, a forced restructuring of the economy resulting in cataclysmic consequences for many less wealthy, businesses forced to go under by draconian restrictions enforced for no logical reason other than a bizarre competition between agencies and individuals trying to demonstrate their power. Imagine, we may have had infected foreign military personnel wandering around, because as "VIPs" they were exempted from the more sensible rules regarding testing and quarantine, we might have had a Deputy Prime Minister flaunting an inexplicable fortune in luxury watches acquired during service on a modest military salary, immune from any questions as to how he acquired such wealth; the economic leadership team may have resigned because of inter coalition squabbling at the time when consistency and a modicum of confidence and competence is really needed, we may have had a health minister who throws his toys out of the pram because a foreigner would not pose with him wearing a mask, goes public with all sorts of irrational xenophobic and racial abuse, and then calmly and consistently ignored his own advice, and mocks those who question him...

How lucky we are - it doesn't really bear thinking about does it,?

Dodged a bullet there didn't we!

You're definitely a member alright.
