BANGKOK, July 20 (TNA) – The army will procure a new plane worth 1.35 billion baht to replace its old Beechcraft 1900yf aircraft that has been in use for over three decades and posed spare part problems.

The Army Transportation Department reportedly planned earlier to spend 1,348.5 million baht from its fiscal 2020 on a medium-sized airplane for general use.

However, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused the department to postpone the procurement to the 2021 fiscal year.

Have the farmers received their 15k yet?

Have those who lost their livelihoods in the lock down received financial support?

Is the educational system here so good that it doesn't need to be overhauled and brought up to modern day standards and requirements?

Is the healthcare system, medical staff, hospitals, medical equipment, etc. of such superior quality that celebrities don't need to run the length of the country in an effort to drum up donations for it?

Are the police, soldiers, etc. so well paid that they don't need to take backhanders in order to make ends meet?

The list of issues in this country which should first be tackled before squandering that kind of money of status symbols is as long as my arm.

Again, a limited few taking care of themselves while the majority are simply ignored. Makes my blood boil!

I am sure Thai Airways would have a few spare planes the could have gotten cheap,

but they need to spend big money, wonder how much the real price of the plane is.

Annual Budget

The total annual budget for flying a Gulfstream G500 private jet 200 hours per year is approximately $1,530,601 or $2,368,438 for flying 400 hours per year. The maximum speed of the Gulfstream G500 is 560 mph, but with slower climb, cruise and descending speeds it is more likely to average 448 mph which would equate to an average cost per mile of approximately $17.08 at 200 hours per year. If you fly 400 hours per year, you can spread the total fixed costs over more flight hours which reduces your cost per mile to $13.22.

These budgets do not include the cost to purchase the jet, depreciation or the cost of capital (interest payments.)

Better park it next to the Aircraft carrier,as its going to be too expensive to  use !

I do feel for the poor old fella.

It would have been the perfect background for some photo sessions with a winners smile.

And with chance a built in Bingo table.

Yes, you just can not make this stuff up now can you? Gotta be embarrassing for the Thai citizens, or maybe If the youth movement could move on this it would be embarrassing as hell to the rest of the country.

"The new jet is similar to Embraer aircraft of the army"

The latest version of the Embraer that the Army currently uses costs about $26 million.

The Grumman G500 they are going to buy costs about $42 million.

No worries; all that comes under the 'Reform' that Prayut promised the day he 'took' power, you know, part of the 'Returning Happiness to the People' pledge and about 50 other promises that have never been kept !

Right. Very conspicuously worded. For "general" use.

This really stinks. A few months ago the PM explained to the public there is no more money to help people eat and he was begging the rich to help out. This is absolutely disgusting at this time when Thai people are suffering from extreme financial hardship with no end in sight.

Is this what Prayut ment last week when he said it feels like he has been hit by one then up pops an expensive one to fly in everyone's face ????

Half of the population, particularly the old and sino-thai half, think it's perfectly fine and in fact strive hard to one day receive the same rewards!

Well surely you've got to test drive one before picking up the real thing!

Wonder if they do the old "keep it over the weekend" sales trick?

Just to remind you, we are in the middle of a worldwide pandemic, without precedent in modern times. It's not like we can draw on recent history for parallels. The country is suffering. The tourist industry has closed down. It's not time to spend billions on a single aircraft when the country is basically broke, or rather it would be if it used its reserves to help their population. We suspected they were holding onto cash and crying poor - this proves it. Now you know, beyond doubt, how much the leaders actually care about their people. They are a disgrace to the human race.

Are they not shy? Or feel any kind of shame? 10 million and growing out of work. Huge number of people has not been paid any social security , businesses closing and unable to get loans but army going to spend a billion on a new plane, because hard to get parts for older one.

army really needs the new plane to attend to all those conflicts and threats

Where is all this Bahr coming from, me thinks they are spending to the brink of Thailands bankruptcy, they have already obtained several large loans to keep the Country afloat, then when this Government is overthrown there will be nothing left in the coffers...
