The Royal Thai Army launched its annual drafting campaign on Thursday (July 23) under the “new normal”, with measures in place to protect officials and draftees.

The operation will run until August 9.

This year, eligible candidates are not allowed to bring along their family and friends to hear their names being announced because there is not enough space to ensure social distancing and keep crowds sparse.

If they educated and trained recruits in trades and skills necessary for a modern army they would have so many volunteers that they wouldn't need to draft

Protecting the nation is important in any country but proper training is essential. The invasion of Thailand's north at Ban Rom Klao by the Laos army showed the ineptitude of the Thai military in a time of crisis. That ineptitude has not really changed.

Last thing Thailand needs is thousands and thousands of ex-soldiers familar with modern assualt weapons, military tactics and IED's.
