Six of the 150 soldiers who returned on Wednesday (July 22) from military manoeuvres in Hawaii have reportedly tested positive for Covid-19.

The soldiers were in Hawaii from July 1 for a military operation called “Lightning Forge 2020” and took a direct flight to Thailand on July 22.

The returnees have been quarantined at Ambassador City Jomtien Hotel in Chonburi province, which has been turned into a state quarantine centre with medical personnel from Fort Nawamintharachini Hospital on duty.

The six patients, aged between 20 and 32, have fever, cough, runny nose, rash and diarrhoea and have been deemed patients under investigation.

I think these six were reported in yesterday's figure of ten (10)?

The 10 new cases are Thais in state quarantine who returned from Sudan (1), Pakistan (1), Germany (1), Netherlands (1) & US (6).

Would be interesting to hear more details...did they fly commercial, charter, military...were all 150 tested...are there other military personnel currently in other parts of the world...are they subject to the same rules as others returning re: testing and quarantine.

In one part of the article it says they tested positive for COVID-19, and later it describes them as person under investigation.

The symptoms described, I did not think were typical symptoms of COVID-19. They were only in Hawaii three weeks. Where were they before that?

Hawaii has some of the lowest infection rates for America with about 20 per day. But a recent spike of 55 infections. If it is COVID-19, I suspect one soldier got it and then pass it on or maybe they all got it from close contact with the same person.

If they turn out to be positive, the phrase 'book 'em' could perhaps be seen as using the wrong first word?

According to other reports, they were isolated for 14 days in Hawaii after the exercise and tested twice before taking a chartered Thai Airways jet nonstop from Honolulu to Bangkok. Assuming that's all accurate, it's quite surprising that any of them (let alone six) are testing positive at this point.

Exactly.  Seems there is something missing in the reporting....

Jack Lord looked like a plastic surgeon's CV portfolio when they made the original series. Heaven only knows what he must look like now!

Great opening theme tune though!

For all you naysayers here, these infections speak for themselves. Covid is no joke. Its systemic effects can be lifelong. Thai military is nuts for sending them, and the US for allowing them in. Hope this experience restrains brass in the future. It's more like an episode of that long-running US series, "The war must go on!"
