webfact
Storm Sinlaku serves up seafood feast on Pattaya beach By The Nation Residents of a Chonburi beachside community woke up to a feast today (August 3), served up by tropical storm Sinlaku overnight. People in Bang Lamung district woke up to the sight of clams and mussels in their hundreds and thousands washed up on the shore after the fierce storm blew through Thailand. Residents rushed down to the Pattaya beach to collect the precious fruits of the sea and cook them up for breakfast and lunch. Strong winds had hit the area last night resulting in higher waves that had washed the shellfish bounty ashore, residents said. Some of them collected more than 300 kilograms of clams and mussels and sold them to tourists at cheap prices. Residents explained that a similar feast was served up three years ago by another strong storm. Pretty much anything from the Gulf of Thailand and pretty much anywhere in Thailand's water lives off human 'waste' and is affected by all the pesticides, fertilizers and other rubbish. The Chao Phaya RIver is basically the bowels of Thailand and all that goes into the Gulf. It's hardly just Pattaya you have to fear. If you eat fish or seafood you are eating it all.

jak2002003
That is cruelty to animals.... They should be throwing water on them to keep them cool and then getting them on stretchers back into the sea. Poor mussels.

overherebc
Worked in a power station once where the cooling water was pumped from sea to a neat exchanger and back to the sea. On shutdowns they would clean out the outlet ducts and because the water was a few degrees warmer the mussels in and near the outlet ducts were massive. They were classed as inedible of course and just dumped into skips and disposed of. Just two of them would have made a good meal, if you could eat them. UK by the way so none ended up in the local markets.
overherebc
Re my last. In Scotland in a few places you do get very large mussels locally known as Clabby Doos. Island of Skye is one place I think. Natural grown and very edible. Image shows compared to the usual size.
