Kirsty Jones: Days remain to find backpacker's killer

Police investigating the murder of a Welsh backpacker in Thailand have just seven days left to find her killer.

 

Kirsty Jones, 23, from Tredomen, near Brecon in Powys, was raped and strangled at a guesthouse in Thailand in August 2000.

 

Dyfed-Powys Police officers have been to the scene in Chiang Mai to help with the investigation.

 

But they only have a week before the 20-year Thai statute of limitations runs out on 10 August.

 

The Liverpool University graduate was three months into a two-year around the world trip when she was killed.

They have the DNA Code - so Charge the DNA string!  The lengthcan simply shortend to a number (shown to the power of E for brevity)

 - the 2 legged bearer of the code is simply the Mneumonic represented by it  

 

 

A bit like how a Stolen Car has its Plates Stolen... well, they still have its VIN Code on the body

Yes, this has been known for years.

I guess this is the week all murderers get off in Thailand.

So change the statute of limitations...........why on earth should anyone who has murdered think they can get away with it based on some arbitrary passage of time?

Mr. Red Bull. 

If they have known who it was for 19 years, nothing is going to happen now. Might stage a replay using the Tomoko Kawa<deleted>a case as a template after the statute of limitations runs out.  

 

I remember this case. 

 

IIRC the police tried to frame a farang by planting semen at the crime scene. 

 

It's another big mess like every other high profile case they've ever handled. 

 

Add to the list with the Kanchaburi cop tourist murders, Michael Wansley, Blue Diamond Affair, Boss Red Bull, Pai cop tourist murders, Koh Tao etc, etc.

Wrong on several points. It was a local "ladyboy" that produced the sample and no beatings were needed, and the "owners" name was Andrew Gill a British national. How do I know these things? Simple I was there the night it happened and also the following morning after I got a frantic call from Aree guesthouse.

Yeh, the semen they found on the Sarong that was used to strangle her... 

 

"They arrested Andrew Gill, the British owner of the guest house, and charged him with conspiracy to rape and murder with a person unknown. The 33-year-old had not called police immediately after the discovery of Kirsty’s body because, he later admitted, he was worried about being arrested as his visa had run out. But Mr Gill was later released after the State Attorney decided that there was insufficient evidence to proceed to trial. Crucially, there was no DNA to link him to the scene of the crime and he is now back in Britain"

 

Welsh Police had the DNA from the Sarong and it was given to Thai Police but no arrest was ever made.

I am surprised that murder has a statute of limitations. Imagine meeting someone over dinner who boasts of having murdered someone in their youth and got away with it. What would you say?

The Clock should only start Ticking after some Individual has been brought in for Questioning whilst their Liberty has been stifled... 

 

If a crime scene has been discovered with no one as yet being targeted for potential Charging... then the Limitations thing should not even as yet be relevant

 

someone can be unveiled and charged 50 years after the event for a war crime...  

 

Next they'll be saying that Cold Cases can never be reopened when Evidence as finally been found that might leading them to a suspect that wasn;t even known about until then

Kirsty Jones: Thailand backpacker murder case closed after 20 years

 

Kirsty Jones was raped and strangled in Thailand in 2000

 

A 20-year investigation into the murder of backpacker Kirsty Jones has been closed.

 

Ms Jones, 23, died in Thailand where the 20-year statute of limitations on the case ended on Sunday.

 

No-one can now be prosecuted for the rape and strangulation of the young woman from Tredomen, near Brecon, Powys, at a guesthouse in August 2000.

Yet another death In Thailand where justice hasn’t been served.  
 

Hope the girl’s family find peace. 

Statue of limitations in Thailand has gone into effect. That doesn't necessarily mean that the murderer cannot be tried in another country. In cases like this there are 3 countries that might have jurisdiction: the country where the crime has been committed, the country of the nationality of the victim and the country of nationality of the murderer.
