BANGKOK(NNT) - The Office of Agricultural Economics or OAE has joined hands with The Thai Chamber of Commerce to develop Thailand’s capabilities in agricultural economic information and the big data system.

The authorities even see the COVID-19 disruption to trade, as a great opportunity for Thailand’s export of agricultural products.

Mr. Rapibhat Chandarasrivongs, Secretary-General of OAE announced today that the office and the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, had together signed an academic MOU to develop a Big DATA system that contains agricultural economic information. The signing also aims to

increase the efficiency of staff and academics of both departments. Meanwhile, the cooperation is also a new approach to agricultural work that will apply more market principles and technologies.

The Secretary-General also said the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19, demonstrated Thailand’s stability in food supply. Furthermore, the country’s exports have been rising continuously. Between May and June, exports rose 4.2 percent but owing to last year’s drought and plant disease, agricultural economics are expected to shrink 5.1 percent in the first half of this year.

Thailand now has to accelerate the consumption of internally-grown agricultural products and focus on developing more quality agricultural products.

Meanwhile, the flood in the northern region has caused damage to many areas and affected many citizens. Now, officials from the Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and the Department of Royal Irrigation are working on draining water out of the area to alleviate people’s difficulties in the area.
