I think it depends on your budget.

 

If you’re moving here because you have a limited budget & it was so cheap all those years ago then you’re in for a rude awakening as not only have prices increased but your home currency has almost certainly gone down a lot since you were last here.

 

Whilst money can”t buy you happiness I’d say that most people who have a comfortable budget are happy & content here, people who have been battered by FX rate changes & are struggling to meet the financial requirements for their visa are (in general) not.

I spend about 500 bt a day in LOS so about $300 usd a month..I live very much like a local..simple living

 

Everything I now own all fits in my car...I have one foot in the states and one in LOS....when I get tired of the BS in either place Its time to go....pros n cons to most things in life....wishing I had both feet in LOS as of now

Do you like hot weather? Do you like spicy food? Do you have money? Visas aren't a problem at the moment, just use an agent; in two years, I don't know, maybe the whole system will come crashing down. Which illustrates the whole problem really, trying to plan two years ahead for a country like Thailand. Just keep it as an option and revisit the question in 2 years time.

I have many Labyboy friends, a few gay guy pals too, doesnt mean I want to be sexual with them..

They are a trip and fun to hang and drink with, they have a zest for life and are outspoken-carefree

Depends what sort of life you are after ,when i first came it was ,sex ,fun ,sex ,sun ,sex on and on ,and needed lots of money  for the life , Eventually got into a business ,met the wife ,etc etc ,now live here as a family man ,shopping ,drives into the country ,tv, garden etc etc . 

i love the life .England is fast becoming the foreign land ,full of foreign people. would not go back if you paid me.

i once lived there and i have been offered a free house plus the money needed in the bank by my thai friends to live there again but i find with a multiple entry visa that's enough for me. Get bored after a certain time there and go home ,then i get bored at home and come back. 555

My observation is.If your looking for advice on life in Thailand or any thing on a personal note forget about it the absolute garbage that is posted in reply far outweighs the constructive comments.Therefore I agree with Pilotmans post.(attitude)

Life in Thailand (for me) involves plenty of alcohol.

If I could go back in time to before I met my wife, knowing what I know now I would have given Thailand a miss. It has become considerably less foreigner friendly over the years and the trips to immigration are a constant source of frustration. Vietnam or Mexico would have been my choice.

 

If my wife and I ever part company I think I would leave, sad to say but I think you can have an easier life elsewhere.

I woke at 8am, had a coffee.

Went to fridge at 9am to grab butter for my toast and notice a few beers hidden at the back.

Thinking it 12pm somehwere am now on my 2nd big leo after running out to grab a box.

 

I think it would be near impossible for me to live as a foreigner without a few male friends to talk to every few days, and that's how I ended up in LOS: because of circumstances I had an instant circle of male friends here. And I do like women; there's one living with me now because her work is largely gone, makes life easy and it can happen here.

But I agree with the poster who listed three things: money, health, and mental health and attitude. I have the first and last, but someday the wheels will seriously start coming off, and I  have a place back in CA where my Medicare is good-everyone should have something equivalent.
