‘Commander pressured forensics team to reduce Boss speed estimate’

The independent inquiry into the case against Vorayuth "Boss" Yoovidhya is focusing on a police forensic scientist’s claim that he was pressured to reduce the estimated speed of Vorayuth’s Ferrari when it hit and killed a policeman in 2012.

Pol Col Thanasit Taengchan of the Police Forensic Science Office said a high-ranking commander had brought Saiprasit Kerdniyom from King Mongkut's Institute of Technology North Bangkok to convince him to lower the speed from 177 kilometres per hour to 79.22kph – just under the speed limit.

Meanwhile, a group of police forensic scientists have sent a letter to the media saying that Thanasit and other forensic team members who are accused of changing the evidence, were forced to do so by the commander.

The letter alleged the commander was a retired official in the post-coup National Legislative Assembly’s committee on law, justice and police affairs.

Thanasit later said he knew nothing about the letter and would give no comment.

Sira Jenjaka, chairman of the House committee on law, justice and human rights, said Thanasit’s testimony that the commander merely brought Saiprasit to talk to him contradicted his claim that he was pressured into changing the speed estimate. Sira reportedly said Thanasit had earlier told him privately that he would reveal the name of the commander in his testimony to the House committee, but he failed to do so.

Sira implied Thanasit may feel intimidated by someone behind the case, adding that he should tell the truth for his own safety as he will be protected.

It is very gratifying to see some progress being made on this case, finally. But I understand the pressure that the prospective whistle blower is under to stay quiet. How can they guarantee his safety, really?

Ah…the plot…sickens.

The fact that this mysterious “Commander" remains unidentified suggests:

1.  He’s too connected to confront.

2. He’s been given a set amount of time to come up with a suitable bribe.

3. He doesn’t exist. There is no “Commander”…like the Watch-man's dead friend...its all

   misdirection.

This whole show could play out for a very long time, The only certainty being that it will only go away when he ‘right’ person…receives the ‘right’ amount of money.

Amazing Thailand...you couldn't make this stuff up.

Yeah, right.

One eye witness mysteriously dies days after giving his account of the accident doesn't exactly instil confidence in being safe or protected.

I will not be at all surprised if after this shocking news, the case will slowly die away and NOTHING WILL HAPPEN.

This is getting embarrassing now, the little towrag Boss should admit the truth from where ever he is and stop this circus so many people have their neck on the line it's time to throw the towel in and be a man

They just type out the guarantee then print it on some paper then it will be worth as much as the paper it's printed on.

I wish I had the book and movie rights to this story.  I could make a fortune. It is much more interesting and exciting than many of the current movies and tv programs.

Could it be that this "commander" is an avid red bull products and fringe benefits?...

Very true and cynical comment.

I think the only way to guarantee safety is by moving to another country, as others have done in the past.

But the ending is all too easy to predict. Bull Boy walks free and lives happily ever after.

If the AG office hadn't made the announcement that they were dropping charges, all would have remained quiet. Boss would have continued his life overseas and although many people aren't happy, nothing would ever have happened.

What we saw was an unexpected public reaction and that in turn is starting to unravel the case and it may well be that the police might have to take some action. It could even be that some people might actually be charged with corruption (though that's probably doubtful).

What a can of worms they inadvertently opened!

Just to add to that, CNN reported the dropping of charges.

Sure a dead friend will be popping up clutching a borrowed speed cam in this saga just about now ????

So the Ferrari did it. Quick! Arrest that car!

A waste of time having an inquiry really. This is Thailand, no one who is connected will be punished only some lower ranked person will be scape goated. I am sure Thai people expect nothing else!

When he tells the truth he will be slapped with a Criminal Defamation Case. Truth is no defense when you have already given two versions of the truth. One witness has already died. I think that might also have persuaded him to change his Testimony!

They cannot even protect themselves,,, no show that they could protect us unless of course

the brown envelope is bulging

Soo boring who cares

....a mass suicide coming Thai way
