SURVEY: Songkran--Big Event or Big Waste of Time?

I always enjoy the festivities in the bush, Isan, as it is nice to catch up with family who are usually away working most if not all of the rest of the year.

Also it is more enjoyable than say the madness of Pattaya which I avoid.

In my view Songkran was cancelled. They 'owed' 3 days holiday and they are paying them back. They gave 1 day holiday already to make a 4 day and this is just another long weekend.

And I wish, grumpy foreigners would stop lecturing everybody and their aunt about how "this beautiful, peaceful, traditional festival" was turned into mayham and Thai- people really liking it better the old way!

Ever been on Silom on April 13th?

Where 1000s of Thais celebrate like crazy?

Or in the small back- alleys and sois in Bangkok?

Where family and neighbors come together, eat, drink and splash water at each other and especially the kids loving it?

In Chiang Mai, Songkran brings in a ton of foreign visitors, at least during previous years. Postponing it during the time at which a limited amount of tourist can fly to Thailand means only locals and long stay falang will be in attendance. Sounds even more fun!
