Pattaya City Hall have announced major works to improve Beach Road from North Pattaya to Walking Street - a four kilometer stretch.

A budget of 160 million baht will go into beautification work such as greening, improving sidewalks and providing better parking for tour buses and private tourist vehicles.

There will also be installation of underground toilets.

There is an acceptance that at the moment the clientele will be Thai and these measures are designed to make Pattaya more appealing for the local market.

Manager said that Pattaya is a world renowned resort known for attracting 10 million tourists a year, pre-pandemic.

Of course there will be a lot of negative comments with this even though it's a good thing, but if they really want to clean this stretch up then they really need to stop the prossies hanging around.

  • Underground toilets along Beach Road. ??  How lovely, one can go swimming  down in them in the wet season when they flood now without getting sunburnt.

  • Sorry but you are wrong, the Chief of Pattaya plod, said there was no prostitution in Pattaya.???????????? No anyone who believes the police Chief is bloody crazy.

They could spend 10x this amount but it will still look utterly VILE if these hookers are still making the place look a disgusting mess.

AIDS ridden prossies, homeless people and stray dogs all lined along that stretch, but let's spend 160 mil on more trees, new pavements and underground bogs. They need to sort out the real problems if they want families to expose their kids to this disgusting mess.

90% of the clean up budget will be spent on cleaning up brown envelopes which are clogging up the drains and sewage.

Where is all this money coming from?

Thai men don't need underground toilets AKA roadside hedges.

Marauding packs of wild dogs; mounds of rubbish dumped every where; no police force; no working taxi meters and they're going to 'green' Beach Road????

Most toilet contents end up going underground. Is it an attempet to cut out the piddle middle man?

Will they be like these perhaps, given that they're now catering to Thai visitors?

Erm... Don’t they spend a few hundred million baht on Beach Road every couple of years or so anyway?

Underground toilets and parking are going to be interesting? Where exactly? Flooding much?

When I lived there in the late 90s---early 20s it seemed like they were doing this every 2nd year---some contractor made a mint out of it.

Now let's see....that's 1 million for Grass Seed, another million for White Paint to mark out Parking Bays, 2 million for Porta-Loo's, chuck in another million for a few Tree's.   Well; blimey, that leaves 155 million for a shareout at the Office...nice one !

Their "cash cow" used to be the "beautification" of Sukhumvit Road, they spent literally millions of $ beautifying it, then dug it all up and made more lanes! now they have moved their attention to beach road, wonder who owns the majority of the land and property in that area, rumour has it a lot is owned by a well connected family from Chon Buri?

These endless budgets for beautification must be getting more difficult to justify ????

Everyone at City Hall, from bottom to top, knows how the "system" works!  WHY would you have to justify anything to anyone?  WHAT would you have to justify?  After all, simply "business" as usual!  (The fact that it is for underwater toilets and to replace the trees that were torn out is irrelevant.)

Bloody Hell ! You certainly would not want to be using the facilities Underground if it starts to Rain.

Underground toilets in Thailand wait until the tide comes in

Underground cr@ppers what are thinking? Sh!t doesn't run Uphill.

Underground toilets?

Beach road is pretty safe, but I'm not sure I want to go underground there.  Sounds like a muggers paradise.

''improving sidewalks ''..... what sidewalks ?... do they mean the obstacle course strewn with power poles, mains power boxes, sign posts and shop awning supports ?... and make the ''sidewalks'  wheelchair friendly !!!!

Long-drops must have gone up in price?

This will most certainly be a great comfort to all those that have been waiting in line for food hand-outs.

159 million in backhanders and 1  million for actual substandard below par attempt at work, thatll be an 8 hour  day with 50 workers that could be done by 10 anywhere else in the world

so they are going to dig it all up again,do you think someones told the mayor about the forth bridge where they keep painting the <deleted>

great for cats and dogs humans will never use it

They already have underground toilets! They are called the drainage pipes! Thais dump everything down them!
