So they are spending billions of baht on developing a vaccine but will have no means to produce it?

They only give 60% from budget to somebody else! They are so confident about they own vaccine! That not even need money! Thailand is so supportive!

ChAdOx1 ncov-19 will be around soon enough. I read somewhere that they've stopped the phase 3 trial applications for the working age group (18 to 55 year olds) already, because they have enough in this age range.

I take this as a good sign as they're now pushing ahead with other age groups which are more of a 'risk'.

Surely  not as world  leaders in ( insert imaginary field  of  choice) this I  thought they would  have at least inoculated half the population by  now? Why our dear PM told us all this surely?

Land of twits.

"Thai health authorities had planned human testing of the vaccine by October, but must delay that by several months as factories abroad are at full capacity, said Kiat Ruxrungtham, director of the Chulalongkorn University vaccine development programme."

Hopeless case. If testing is several months, then no way of getting vaccine to the people before 2022.
Many times the lack of planning is obvious,
Truly Amazing Thailand.

I have said before, if you want to get a vaccine when it is available then be prepared to go out of Country.

But god forbid you may not be allowed back in.????????????

It is a specialized production and this is a common situation with lead batches. You cannot just make a vaccine overnight. It requires a plant, trained personnel  and support infrastructure. Thailand is in the same  situation as Australia, and Canada and many other countries.  The active ingredients come from India or China and Thailand is in line with everyone else.

Thailand's professionals have already stated that it will take 12-18 months before a Covid19 vaccine will be ready in Thailand. This is no secret and they have said that the timeline is optimistic.

Please listen to the explanation from Dr. Somchaiya Surichan, Director of Biologicals Research Group, Thailand GPO. She is a wonderful and qualified professional. Her honesty  integrity is obvious.

Maybe I don't understand something here. Thailand is not proceeding with the trials of the Thai vaccine because they can't produce it in the overseas facility... then the article mentions the Oxford vaccine. How is that Thai?

Lastly, if there is no Covid19 infection in Thailand how do they test the vaccine? If there is no disease, they can inject a placebo and claim that it works as none of the test subjects got sick...

This is not a vaccine developed by Thai doctor's for Thailand.. seems like an international effort.

At least someone finally acknowledges that a vaccine will take time to be developed, tested and then produced and distributed

Thailand is the epicentre of U-turns, and not just on the roads !

They have more U turns than Boris Johnson......and that is saying something.

They can't. Oxford Group are conducting phase 3 trials in S. Africa and Brazil.

Easier to get away with murder there.

submarines (useless) or billions for a vaccine for 58 deaths (useless)

...actually the vaccine is for the other 65million people...not the 58 dead ones.

Maybe the economy is tanking so fast they don't have enough money to manufacture a vaccine. Or maybe they spent the money on something weird to keep the military supporting them. Like submarines.

Thailand’s cabinet on Tuesday approved a budget of 1 billion baht ($31.8 million) for vaccines, 60% of which would be invested in Oxford University’s vaccine programme and the remainder in its domestic programme.

1 billion baht.  60% will be spent to import real, clinically verified vaccine, 40% to make 'disappeared' under research expenses.

When the real vaccine arrives, who'll remember to ask about the local vaccine?
