Thailand delays human testing for coronavirus vaccine

Well, they could spend that money to make a small Production  plant and start to produce their own vaccine, that would be a good use of the money. Then they could also start taking orders as well and have some income from it.

How could they test a vaccine (phase 3) when they have no Covid. Maybe that's why they want to open borders to tourists.

The vaccine isn't developed and manufactured in Thailand. It will be tested by the manufacturer, most likely AstraZeneca. It seems like the  Thai Government doesn't realize how long time it takes do the 3 test stages incl. evaluation. AstraZeneca won't rush it just because some governments are screaming for it.

It is a specialized production and this is a common situation with lead batches. You cannot just make a vaccine overnight. It requires a plant, trained personnel  and support infrastructure. Thailand is in the same  situation as Australia, and Canada and many other countries.  The active ingredients come from India or China and Thailand is in line with everyone else.

Thailand's professionals have already stated that it will take 12-18 months before a Covid19 vaccine will be ready in Thailand. This is no secret and they have said that the timeline is optimistic.

Please listen to the explanation from Dr. Somchaiya Surichan, Director of Biologicals Research Group, Thailand GPO. She is a wonderful and qualified professional. Her honesty  integrity is obvious.

Thanks for a sensible summary of the situation among all the usual snipes and cheap shots.

Bewildering forum often and suggest there could be a designation for people that can't stand living here, but somehow can't leave, regardless of Covid. Seems to be a fair proportion ????

...actually the vaccine is for the other 65million people...not the 58 dead ones.

yes, 65 Bn will have to apply because of 58 people who die. Strange logic...

But really, i agree that it can not have only 58 who die because of COVID in Thailand, the number of death is strangely superior than other years... and if you don't test, you don't know... but they speak like they know something, sure.

It is something very new in the world ! But what is not new is the corruption and the business abusive stories from powerful people in a kind of free market world.

So they are spending billions of baht on developing a vaccine but will have no means to produce it?

No, they are spending billions on a committee talking about it, to then send it abroad to develop it with whats left of the money

yes sure...

Like all these motorcycles and agricultural machines which they say are made in Thailand when they are, in reality, made in China (and sometimes assembled in Thailand) and of which they add incredible value.
And like all those construction workers who come from Laos, Burma, Vietnam and who work very hard on construction sites (and who work well).

What is the best from Thailand is the food they do so good and the way of thinking and apply the humans relations in the deep country.

I hope for this to never disappear. For the other, there is a lot to learn about from... well, history know where the knowledge is coming from for each special things we would talking about. There is no secret around what is the best for each cultural practice to learn about.

What a load of BS

Virus was isolated by the Chinese back in February and the DNA code provided to labs around the world to start working on vaccines. No one, not even scientists know the true mortality rate of COVID19 because it various so greatly from one country to another as do the standards to calculate rates of infection etc so how can you possibly claim "has a survival rate of more than 99%".

Hilarious that you use Sweden as an example when they failed massively with 575 deaths per 1 million, one of the highest rates out of the 213 infected countries and 87,000 infected in a country of only 10 million people. Sweden has had more cases per capita than UK, Spain, France, india, Mexico etc who have all been mocked for their infection rates/deaths.

yes sure. It show the reality of this virus pandemic panic for what it is really.

All of these story for 0.575 death per thousand people.

We should be able to compare to any other virus we already have from long time and who never make this panic happened because of that.

Nope that's not what it shows. While Sweden didn't have a lockdown they did follow social distancing and hygiene which no doubt reduced the spread of the virus and government tests show that only 6% of the population have antibodies so without these measures far more people would have been infected and died.   The States for Sweden show that out of 87,000 confirmed cases, 5800 have died which if the figures are accurate gives a mortality rate of 6.6% which is far higher then "any other virus"

The logical answer is that they got in too late, far better to jump off now and save funds as others are on the brink of production after serious and positive testing results.

Enough of all this negative crud people, this bug is soon to be gone from our lives, but I pity those who wont get vaccinated, no travel for a while for them

22bn would buy a fair amount of capacity........but 'we' need those submarines so very urgently.

The Subs are to protect the enlightened ones in the event of an emergency by staying submerged they will not catch covid, when air runs low the enlightened one will order the Sub to produce more.

They will test it abroad.

The UK vaccine is being tested in Brazil and the USA.
