I am planning a short holiday(3 or 4 days) in Pattaya with my wife and 4 year old daughter and would like a hotel near the beach away from the night life areas,

I have never been to Pattaya before but its reputation for the hedonistic life style(gay or nud_e beach areas) is not something I want to expose my daughter too,

Thanks

then why have a holiday in pattaya, go to hua-hin, koh samet or koh chang, i am sure you will enjoy it more, however much the Thai authorities would like you to believe Pattaya is a family resort, it is not.

Try either Cabbages and Condoms (the name may seem a bit iffy, but the resort is paradise for children) or Rabbit resort same as before but more pricey. Both are more Jomtien than Pattaya. We regularly visit Pattaya and manage to stay away from the mucky bits.

I would add though, there aren't any nudey dudey beaches and as far as I know the Gay part is seperate from the usual sleaze.

What you really want to avoid is - exposing your daughter to the beach itself. It's filthy, infested with canvasers, water is mostly murky.

Try some Jomtien hotels: Grand Jomtien Palace, challet wing.

Cabbage and Condoms - good for kids. Google the name and you will see there is a noble cause behind it.

Rabit resort (owners' surname) - in the heart of (male) gay beach, popular among them, nice but not really a family place.

What I do - stay mostly at View Talay condos and drive every day to Pattaya Water Park. There are 2 hotels next to it but looks like they are pre-sold to Russian package tourists. Next it is also Adriatic Palace, Korean pkg tourists stay there, could be pricier than what you said.

Finally, as someone said, go to Hua Hin but there you would need a pool too and nothing like Pattaya Water park nearby or at all.

Think the " Diana Garden Resort " opposite the North road bus station could be a good choice as it also provides free and frequent transport into town to the main Diana Hotel opposite Mikes super store on number two road.

There are two standards of room available and suggest an email enquiry if you are interested.

Also recommend a look at the online booking / information page on url:-

Gay Nudie Beaches in Pattaya???? Where?? Please tell! Rabbit Resort nice but maybe out of your price range at around 3000 per night. It's at the far end of the beach Jomtien (Dong Tan Beach) past the gay beach. I've had several straight friends both couples and families who have stayed there and loved it. Several decent guest houses also to the right of the police station past the 7-11 which are cheap and cheerfull such as the Sugar Palm Hotel at 800 to 1000 per night. Very clean - big rooms with nice little restaurant next door and views from the room of the beach. You get mostly couples (gay) and older married couples from BKK who stay there and have been staying there for years (including myself). The restaurant next door is great as it is open early at 630am and has unlimited refill on coffee at breakfast and decent happy hour in the evenings. For cheap and cheerfull weekend I recommend it. There is no sleeze factor. Honest.

Red roofs are Rabbit Resort. Photo taken from Pattaya Park tower.

Out of hundreds of hotels in Pattaya, no need for a family to stay at the gay beach (which is right there, where Rabbit resort is, not "past").

Beg to differ - but the gay beach is not "right there"...try 300m further down the path. The gay beach is really just a small area. Anyway for a "clean" family vacation with nothing to disturb the mind and senses head to Cha - Am. I don't suggest Hua Hin because I think they have a "cabaret" bar there which you might stumble upon and one would not want to see that. But if that does not shock you - try the euro guest house which is family oriented and they have use of a lovely pool next door.

Anyway - as one poster put it (Think too mut) . The water is filthy in Pattaya and you can do much better just about elsewhere.

Not water. The beach.

From Pattaya water park to police box at Jomtien is 12 minutes walk along the waterline, done it hundreds of times. 1.6km, says the pedometer. Gay beach is all around the area where Rabbit resort is. At least those sitting in deckchairs near the water.

I have no problem with them, it's only the question "does it really have to be this hotel" that would make me look elsewhere.

Just to add to this post, i was thinking along the lines of dropping off at the Diana Hotel on 2cnd. Rd. and walking through Mikes to access the beach from the other side.

It wasn,t so bad last time i was there but who knows bearing in mind how fast things are apt to change on the beach front ?

I usually pay for my room only by the way and have breakfast at the Diana Hotel ( far better ) before taking a walk via the store to the beach.

Jomtien Garden Hotel between Soi 8 and 9 is a low rise hotel directly across road from beach and very good pool for all ages as it slowly slopes from toddler to adult levels and is much larger than most. The price is within your range (for the higher class rooms on floors 6-8) and each room has two queen size beds which can be pushed together if you want. Breakfast has been much improved over the years and is much better than web reviews would indicate. Rooms are large at about 35sqm and full cable TV (60 channels) is provided. I believe it is good value tourist class accommodations and have used several times.

I did notice a few shophouse type places full of girls at about 1800 which did not used to happen in Jomtien but did not notice anything in daytime.

I lived right on Dongtan Beach for a year - despite the "gay" repution, it's actually a great family beach - go in two or three chair colors (each chair vendor is a different color) from the police box to find some nice spots.

If you want to take your family out for a great day at the beach, take a song taew (100 baht) to Bali Hai Pier and take the boat out to Koh Lahrn (20 baht per person) - hit the far side of the island for some beautiful, clean beach/water action, snorkelling, etc. Samae Beach is particularly attractive with a western "state park" atmosphere with good food and beverages served right to your beach chair. Kinda swarming with Russian tourists, but a nice place to take the kids, IMO

There are many other beaches to check out on Koh Larn - simply google "Koh Larn" for the possibilities.

Speaking for myself (and I live in Pattaya), when we want to do a day out at the beach, we haed to one of the islands like Koh Larn or go down to Koh Samet - or a weekend on Koh Chang

Hope this helps out - feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

Another confirmation, by a resident, that Pattaya has no beach. That filthy sandy stretch (4km city + 6km Jomtien) is worth nothing and poses only in glossy brochures in Moscow, Novosibirsk, Astana and other places that know of no better..

From the "beach", look what you have to do to get to one: "If you want to take your family out for a great day at the beach, take a song taew (100 baht) to Bali Hai Pier and take the boat out to Koh Lahrn (20 baht per person) ". What an adventure, especially with 2 kids in tow.
