BANGKOK, Aug 27 (TNA) – Thai Airways International (THAI) is ready to arrange special charter flights for tourists from six countries as the national carrier welcomed the government’s plan to receive foreign tourists to the resort island of Phuket.

The announcement came after the government’s policy to ease travel restrictions to revive the country’s tourism hard hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Chansin Treenuchagron, Acting President of THAI said the charter flights will be arranged for travellers from Denmark, Germany, England, South Korea, Hong Kong and Japan to Phuket, known as one of popular destinations among the Andaman coastal provinces.

So how does this work - 2 weeks quarantine, then an extra week before you can move from Phuket?

Or is this something else?

Yes  2 weeks stuck in quarantine and then a week where you have to stay locally to be tested again, then free to move on.......all being well.

It's sensible.

Free movement would be ridiculous. The virus will return, and they'll be back in lockdown.

Some people are under the impression you can roam within 1km in the “resort“  but I’m struggling to see how that can happen unless everyone roaming has arrived the same time as you and no one else can get in or out including all the staff, girls etc etc.

Still requires a lot more detail on how it will actually work imo

Yeah i am seeing alot of this 'roaming' around. This will not work and defeats the object of the quarantine exercise.

If you have done lets say 13 days out of the 14, and the encounter people who are on their first day who may have the virus - what's not to stop you catching the virus?

You can also be asymptomatic for a day or two, and not show up positive on a test. Say you are on your final day of quarantine, but you encounter a few people hours before your final test before release. They transmit the virus to you, but because it's only a short amount of time, you will clear the final test. However, you will be infected.

I suppose this may well be why they are then having another 7 days whilst on the island - but this would then mean Phuket would be a hot bed of people possibly having the virus. What then if workers return back from Phuket to Bangkok etc?

It's terrible science.

Kiss the domestic travelers goodbye, enjoy the next lock-down.
