Mrs saw a "sham " log fire in Global

As we have no chiney it might look ok and perhaps be used in January by her

Up North in the valley it very raarely drops below 10 degrees when I think about a vest and locals dress fro ski-ing, gloves scarves etc

Suffice to say while I can wire a plug fit a fluro tube I'd sooner pay to have such a dangerous apparatus installed

The only nearby plug is 5 amp

However at our mains box we have

Lighting circuits I think in 5-15amp range, run a compressor , drill, fridge vacuum etc

Plus we have a seperate 3o amp for teh Electric Cooker and Oven

I imagine best to run a new heavy duty cable , The distance be about 7 meters to the box.

I have planned to build the body under a concrete stairwell, as no fumes or chimney involved.

Never having used one I wonder how hot the side /rear casing might get, a real woodburner as I had in Denamrk would cook a cat or fry a dog once stoked up.

Should I mount on the bare concrete, Tile or perhaps Red bricks ?

My main concern is safety when away.

Any advice welcome if you are in C Rai you can have the job!

Here is a link to the type ELectric Fire

My strog preference Plan B is loop a log fire film on TV and pass the Single malt or Yadong for those dozen nights a year when she's cool

This is the type on sale at lazada

Any ideas welcome

It will not radiate heat, the heat will be blowed out from under, with many heaters like this one the heating element is built under the decorative thing.

The switches are mostly behind the door and you can turn it on as decorative lights with and without the heating function.

No need for special red bricks.

As long there is enough air circulation around it, especially from under and behind. So putting it inside a wall is not an option.

Safety is built in, if the air blocks or gets too hot (above 70 degrees inside) it will turns off.

Also tilting it will turn it off.

At 1800 watt it will pull 8 amps.

Wiring: 1.5mm2 will do the job fine but 2.5mm2 for L and N , and 1,5mm2 for earth is suggested.

Then you will even able to add another socket for something else without worrying about the load on the wires.

Wire from consumer unit to an outlet under the staircase.

Thanks everyone , very helpful, Still think a case of whisky a better investment, but as all the long time married gus know, when she's happy I'm happy, so looks pretty straightforward.
