I can comment on the reverse situation. My wife just sent a package to family in Thailand from the US. A Customs officer told me he constantly has trouble with DHL. If you use DHL be prepared to pay and pay and pay. I paid 3700bht to have less than 1 kg shipped from the US. DHL called me and literally asked for 3800 bht "under the table" 2800 for customs and 1000 for DHL Upon speaking to Customs, Customs said the package had already been released to DHL and there were no charges. Nobody pays any tax on shipments valued up to 24,000 THB. DHL is excellent and extremely reliable. Customer support is 5*****. The difference being that e-Packet can only be insured for up to 1500 Baht (cost = 30 Baht), whereas EMS includes insurance up to 7,000 Baht (but is much more expensive). The very nice employees at the Chiang Mai office could not explain this charge ... afaik it was not a customs' duty.. The FedEx notification system sent me several contradictory e-mails regarding location and delivery of the parcel; I wasted far too much time trying to get accurate information. It took major effort to finally get their supposedly English-language support person at #1728 to give me a direct number for the Chiang Mai office #053128150: the man I spoke to at the CM office spoke much better English.
