In preparation for when tourist visas are issued again at consulates outside of Thailand (for example, USA or Canada):

The equivalent of 200,000 Baht has been in my non-Thai bank account for 1 month.

How many months do I need bank statements showing 200,000 Baht to qualify for any tourist visa issued by a consulate outside of Thailand?

If you have a US passport you do not need a visa to visit Thailand as a Tourist.

To get a visa at the Thai consulate in Los Angeles, I believe you can just just print a copy of a recent statement from your US bank account. You don't need a Thai account.

The consulate's website describes the different visas and explains everything you need to get a one.

For multiple entry tourist visa yes.

If you have a US passport you can go in and out of the county multiple times without a visa, not sure how many.

Is there even a thing as a multiple entry tourist visa for US passport holders?

If you apply in the UK you need 6 months of bank statements with at least £5000 if you want to get a multiple entry tourist visa. No financial requirements for single entry. The rules are similar in most countries.

Yes

They can be issued for any nationality but it can only be applied for in your home country or country of legal residence.

What is the benefit of getting a visa when as a tourist you are visa exempt, you get to stay longer or what?

You are very early in your preparation.  There is no talk of Thailand opening to people with regular tourists visas anywhere on the horizon.  It seems impossible for many months to come and may not even be possible this time next year.  No one knows at this point.

A tourist visa allows a 60 day entry that can be extended for 30 days. A visa exempt entry only allow a 30 day entry that can be extended for 30 days. That is a 90 day stay verses 60 days without needing to get a new entry.

Also visa exempt entries are limited to 2 per calendar year at land border crossings.

Thanks, that makes sense. Are the number of entries via air also limited? The total number of days a year is limited for visa exempt as well, yes?

180 days in calendar year. If they count that!

There is no limit via air for visa exempt entry. However some airports refuse entry particularly if they are back to back.

There is no written rule by air for the number of  visa exempt entries per year or the amount of time spent in the country using them.

Double check if Multiple Entry is available at your local embassy/consulate.  I applied for a new 90 day non-O (in Canada, no problems), but was informed that an ME was not available at this time, due to CV19 travel restrictions.

Embassies and consulate are not issuing tourist visas at this time since they cannot be used for entry now.

OP never mentioned a ME tourist visa, just 200k. In several countries in Europe when applying for a ME tourist visa, you need to be employed and the company you work for has to send a letter straight to the embassy/consulate.

The ban on international commercial flights will remain in force while the Covid-19 pandemic situation remains critical in many countries, the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) said on Wednesday Aug 12

It is an indefinite ban, said CAAT director Chula Sukmanop and the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) would monitor the global situation before deciding when the flights could resume.

I assume he mentioned the 200k because he wants a Me visa. That's the financial requirement for one. (£5000 in UK , $7000 in US for six months in your account)

By air it's unlimited but if you continue in and out you will be questioned.

By Land you are allowed 2 per year.

If the OP is going to be spending more than 30 days in Thailand the proper thing to do is to get a visa.

I've gotten the METV twice in the last 3 years from the Thai Consulate in Toronto Canada. I was never asked for any income or bank statement... Just passport, photo and the fee.
