Importing a boat from Australia

Featured Replies

3 years ago, imported my 19 foot Sea Ray with inboard drive to Thailand from Florida. Only paid the 7 percent VAT tax, and was really easy procedure.

  • i'm looking to import mine also

  • Best of luck on this...        Some years ago I had air freighted to Thailand  9  boxes of personal effects, total  freight cost $750. I had printed off  Thai  regulations   re customs duties, in both

it was said above that most GRPs on the river were not registered with Marine Dep,

that may be so,

but I would strongly advice against that unless you are Thai

make sure you have registration (tabien ruua) (its mandatory) and insurance (its mandatory)

and your own driving ticket in order

As part of your research, you may want to try and contact one of the marinas or surrounding business. They would have a much better idea on any of the finer details. I was looking to do it from Hong Kong a few years ago but chickened out. You may be able to keep it registered as an Australian boat and not technically import it. Just spitballing.

Sure you did! ????????????????????????

if u chuck thai baht on the floor  u might go to Jail   maybe a good place

the super expat that does it all  [NOTHING]

Am going through process at present having a 25ft boat sent from West Aus.????

You should be able to fit her on a Flatrack oversize.Aus has a FTA agreement with Thailand for what its worth so 7% VAT is what you should be getting charged but as others have mentioned that is not necessarily how it will go down. In principle it is an easy process. The main problem you will have apart from customs mafia is dealing with the Import/Export brokers.

They are at best economical with the truth and love to spin all manor of charges as am finding out. Have just had one quote come in at 13k USD which is well "hilarious".

If anyone knows of a decent import crowd please do PM us.

Good luck if your going to proceed and sharks be everywhere.
