I don't understand why they should continue amnesty! If you not work here, be under 50, whitout Thai wife/kids, don't have Elite Visa. You normaly not stay here long time like now! How many do visa run's many times/year and where they get they money to "help" this coundry!? If you are not in group what i mention before, then you not give much to this country! You are normal tourist who use system's loophole for your own benifit! You can take your backpack and move that to other coundry, nobody cry's a river for that! Bye bye ????

100% agreed. Requiring any type of embassy cooperation, especially the production of documents is a recipe for disaster. Embassies are the long arm of the government in their respective countries and HATE offering anything in writing, let alone letters that confirm the situation back home is bad.

 

Governments have zero interest in letting citizens linger around in faraway lands (although in some instances they should be happy people are gone instead of mooching on the social assistance systems back home).

even a cheap charlie backpacker renting a 2000/month fan room

and eating a 30 bahts soup bowl at the corner make at least 2 people

happy, the owner of the room and the cart soup vendor

in this hard time every little help should be welcome

I feel there is a bit of a general hatred toward poor people on Thai visa. If my feeling is correct then I also wonder why, what problems poor people are causing to them? maybe the complains, which happen quite often when you don't have enough money to live. Anyway it seems that empathy is rare here.

Is it a social divide. World wide there seems a lot of emnity betweem naby boomers and gen x,y, millenials.

Wrong. They want visitors to get the proper visas to stay. They have very generously given 6  months for people to get it right. Now that we are up against the wall, the entitled ones are complaining about the Thai immigration system. If somewhere else they would have been tossed out months ago.

possible but the serial complainers do not always hate the country, you could hate how the government is running the country and still love the rest, or you can hate a certain aspect of thai culture and still like other part of it. There is not much people that would try everything to stay in a country they hate unless your own country is worse.

I met dozens of Thai women working abroad whilst I was living in the middle east and many of them would give their eye teeth to hook up with a falang who was willing to return to live with them in Thailand.

 

And I'm married to one of them! We meet in Egypt, married a year later in Thailand and finally came to live here full time a year after that. And she left a lot of jealous friends behind when we did so.

I'm just hopeful Thailand changes so much I end up getting 2x more baht when I come back.

Likely less than half of the 5K will not be able to find an extension or means to make things correct. I would further assume some of those that have to leave were just hanging out because it was easy. That said they're will undoubtedly be a few that get burned. It sad but they had 6 months to get things right. 

The ones that concern me are the teachers if they had problems renewing their visas.

Why is a 30 day extension of a tourist visa exempt not a proper extension of stay? The US embassy  is freely giving out letters and there are no reports of anyone questioning then. It is wrong about other countries throwing out people. Australia, Indonesia are giving free online covid extensions. I'm sure there are others if you bother researching.

Even if they are just "normal tourist who use system's loophole", in the current situation, can Thailand afford "better" tourists?

 

International tourism is dead and won't recover anytime soon, all governments willing to limit the damages to their economy should try to retain the few tourists they have left.

 

I can understand why the junta would want to clear out foreigners, I'm still not clear about what would be the benefits to other members who keep telling everyone to go home.
