He said that when he added up the pre-flight checks and certificates, the flight costs, the quarantine costs and additional testing costs here in Thailand, there was almost no change from £5000 EACH ! .... in addition to this he noted that this would only buy an economy class ticket, and he could find no way to apply for a Business class ticket - so guess what.... he is staying in England !

like many expats I have a house that I could quarantine in Free of charge the same system is operated in most other countries of the world so why not Thailand??

I can’t see how this is going to work it says that you have to come from a country that has no new cases for 2 months well that rules most of Europe out as we have new cases.Most of the Long stay tourists are Europeans.And who is going to want to be locked up in a Hotel for two weeks at inflated prices like a prisoner.A lot of people on long stay have condos to stay in why not isolate at home.Surely this makes more sense.

It will be interesting to see the total costings when this project is up and running. The ASQ hotels we already know will cost from 30k up to 150k Baht for the privilege of being in isolation for fifteen days. The tests, visa and FtF documentation pre-flight, perhaps 10-15k Baht. The deal-breaker, I suspect, will be the cost of the compulsory charter flight; I don't expect that these will cost less than 40-50k return from Europe or the US, perhaps a lot more; Australia, because it's to all intents and purposes closed for the foreseeable future, and NZ, because there simply won't be enough punters, are non-starters; that essentially leaves Japan, which because of their work ethic may only supply a few hundred, and China, whose government is actively discouraging overseas travel.

 

I don't see this working at all.

Employed as a pilot based overseas, i have “lived” in Phuket for over the past 20+ yrs while not at work overseas. Unfortunately, I remain stuck in Abu Dhabi, unable to return to the home that I built for my upcoming retirement.

It’s unfortunate that the main focus is on the “Tourist” sector and not the foreign expat population that have invested heavily in Thailand, making it our permanent home. 
 

Issued with a Non-Imm 10yr O-X Retirement Visa in Oct 2019, why would I be required to get a so call Special “Tourist“ Visa that is only good for 9 months...? For those of us who have our homes in Thailand, what are we suppose to do and where are we suppose to go after 9 months...???

There is no vacation in Thailand for tourists, period. For the next 12 months, if my understanding is correct about this "special scheme" to run until November 2021.

 

The only people coming are people with very strong ties to Thailand, or ones on Government meetings / business, like that Chinese dude in the previous video.

 

I know someone doing self isolation here in Europe in his own apartment and it got to his head. As in, he is depressed because of it, and counting the days. He does online sessions with his psychologist though, it helps somewhat.

 

TAT can sugar coat it all they want, it's polished detention this quarantine. As in jail, only in a hotel room.

It used to be that if you spent more than 180 days a year inside Thailand, unless you are over 55, you must be working and pay tax. It happened to me. They would not let me check in at the airport. I hope that things have changed. But it will be interesting for these long term tourists if it hasn't.
