Popular Post billd766
Back in 2006 I went to the Bangkok Heart hospital to get a stent fitted. The cost then was 200,000 baht and that included 2 nights, the cost of everything was included. I was the first op in the morning and the surgeon injected the dye to trace exactly where the problem was. He then told me that I actually needed 2 stents and not one. I asked him the extra costs and the second stent was another 50,000 baht. He did both in the same operation, I was awake all the time and it was painless. They even gave me a copy of the video but in B/W only. He did a good job and the only thing that hurts is that I have to take 4 meds a day for life. I figure it is better to take the meds and still be around to watch my son grow up, (he is 16 now but was only 2 when I had the op) than not have the op and possibly die earlier. The one problem I had was actually paying the bill. I could only draw out a maximum of 20k on my credit cards per day and when I checked out I left my other passport as security. My BIL picked me up the next day and I went to the KBank and got the rest of the money then went to the hospital to pay it off. I was told that they day I checked in I could have paid a deposit which would have been a lot easier to pay the bill. Here I am now 14 years older and feeling fine. BTW stents are for life. The food was very good at the hospital. 9

I take Co-Diovan 80/12.5 mg 1/2 tablet per day A box of 28 costs me 598 baht Dilatrend 25mg 1 per day 10 tablets are 280 baht Bestatin 20 mg per day 10 tablets are 155 baht Orfarin 3 or 5 mg per day varies on the dosage 3 mg are 475 baht per 100 5 mg are 550 baht per 100 Get the first round of meds at the hospital though they will be expensive and then find a good reliable pharmacy for the rest of the time. I live in rural Kamphaeng Phet and I use a pharmacy in Nakhon Sawan 125km away. I email him with what I need, do a bank transfer to his account and he sends them by Thai Post EMS for 50 baht. If I order in the morning the meds generally arrive at the house the following afternoon. I hope that this is of some use to you. 6

Popular Post Sheryl
Have you been told you need a stent? Angiogram is required to tell this. Cost varies with number of stents. At a government hospital, about 30K for the angiogram then 150 - 200K per stent plus doctor fees, room charge etc. Queen Sirikit is rather small and would nto be my choice for this if in fact they can do it. (Needs a cardiac cath lab) 1

Good luck for you. My problem started in Bangladesh (not a brilliant place for hospitals) as I had to climb 5 flights of the emergency stairs to get to the office and I had to stop at every floor to get my breath back. The following week I was due for a visa run (to Thailand) and as week off and when my boss asked when I would be back he generously allowed me all the time I needed. He terminated my contract on the spot. Nowadays I usually cut the grass and scrub down on a couple of rai and I can now manage about 1 1/2 hours a day. In the "wet" season I do it every day and have about 5 or 6 months off in the dry season.

Popular Post Sheryl
The go-to doc for this IMO is in Bangkok. If you are willing to travel: https://www.bch.in.th/find-doctor/doctor-profile/?smid=4730 Same doc can also be seen at Chula (govt hospital) but of course that takes more time, long waits etc 1

Totally agree with Siriraj as has excellent heart center and top heart surgeon. Currently have 4 stents and last 2 done at Siriraj two years ago for under 100,000baht with private room including angiogram. Great service and follow up treatment.

The stents or bypass operations are supposed to correct the problem. Then why would you have to take three or four different drugs for the rest of your life? To prevent other arteries from clogging up? Then maybe we should have been taking those drugs decades earlier to prevent our blockages in the first place. Can someone explain please?

From my understanding that is for a type of stent that is drug coated to help limit regrowth of blockage at the stent area (not the type I chose to have). A normal stent does not require more than normal blood thinning which can and is used for those without stents.
Jeffrey346
I had 1 stent at Khon Kaen Hospital 5 years ago cost 200,000. I had a second stent and angiogram at Queen Sirikit Heart Center in KK 2 years ago. Cost 250,000 for both. Fortunately, I am covered by the Thai Gov plan and only paid for my private room and a B280 Dr. fee. My meds are quite expensive about 12,000 a month as I take Entresto which is very expensive. Again the Thai Gov plan covers that as well.
