Bite! - Any idea what creature made this?

Featured Replies

Foot, doesn't hurt (unless I press on it), no swelling, not even sure when it happened.

Treatment? It got Betadine when I noticed it.

1 Baht coin for scale.

It looks a lot more like puncture wounds instead of a bit. When working in the yard/garden...I always seem to get stuff like that with no explanation. The bites (from tiny ants mainly always itch) so easy to tell the difference. Any barbed wire or metal fencing on your property ?

@tonray nope, it happened sometime yesterday a normal workday in the office although I did walk round to a contractors Mo Chit offices (about 10 minutes).

No garden activities except wandering out to feed the carp after work. The grass needs cutting so something could have been lurking and got disturbed.

I noticed when I jumped in the shower in the evening.

I'll just keep an eye on it, if anything unusual happens it's off to the doc.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

looks like three sets of a double bite or puncture and the gap between the teeth or whatever is only a few millimeters apart.

Pretty hard to distinguish what it was ... see how it goes for a few hours and if it gets any swelling or pain go straight to the hospital.

Snake bite ...... 3 strikes.

2 straight on, then 1 at an angle as you moved away.

Let's hope it wasn't venomous, or if it was they were 'dry' strikes.

We do have small snakes of assorted kinds, all non-venomous (or mildly venomous).

I've seen Golden Tree snakes, Laoatian Wolf snakes and those fast green whip snakes, all have been getting out of my way at the time. Maybe one wasn't quick enough.

It's been at least 18 hours since it happened, nothing has dropped off yet.

Assuming that is the bottom of your foot, my Thai gardener friend (who had suffered most every sort of wound) says it was something inanimate. Not likely to be any consequences as long as your tetanus shots are up to date.

Yeah, I wasn't clear, it's on the top. Tetanus is up to date but thanks for the reminder.

that's what it looks like to me.   Watch it very very carefully and monitor your own feelings. I would get them checked anyway.

that's why gardens are for looking at, for dogs to run around in, to build pools in and for an old stooped Thai chap to look after, they are not for farangs.

Logically, on the top of the foot very unlikely to be inanimate puncture wounds. My bet would be on a non-venomous snake that was disturbed.

Fortunately, small mammals such as mice do not harbor the rabies virus. You would not know about that for 2-3 months, after which you would probably be appointed head moderator.

Yes, I know. I have a twisted mind. I blame it on TV.

It usually turns black before it drops off... but only for about 5 minutes though.

I've had these double puncture bites about three times, but not idea what they are. They last a few days, giving only mild irritation, but I do put iodine on them.

Only ever had them on my arms, so doubt if they were from a snake, as getting down to ground level is quite difficult for me.

Good advice. If the OP suddenly has feelings for a full English breakfast, get it sorted ASAP.

By the viciousness of the bite, I reckon it might be a moderator.

Have you been in contact with any dogs?

It can also look like 2 scratch marks (starting from top of your pic and scratching downwards + the punctures look a little bit v-shaped = similar to scratch from top)

I get similar marks if one of our dogs have too sharp nails.

From the spacing of the punctures, I'd suggest a spider.

I woke one day with similar puncture marks on one arm and a quick search of the bed revealed the culprit.

Slight itching for a few days similar to that of a mosquito bite.

Some years ago I was doing some 'lectrical work at my step-son's restaurant. One of the girls came rushing up "Mr Dave, Mr Dave, snake, snake!" no idea why she chose to tell me (thinking back maybe she wanted rid of me). "Where" says I, "hong nam". "OK let's look", she led me to the ladies (one stall) and I gingerly pushed open the door, saw the cobra and carefully closed the door again. Madam called the local snake man and the unwanted guest was soon captured. Sadly he was also dispatched and ended up on the barbie. I can say for certain that cobra tastes almost exactly like, cobra.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

Are you sure it wasn't him?

His is notorious for his triangle bite.

You probably walked through high grasses and he saw a snake...

We do have two Chi's, both have regular pedicures (grand-daughter's job), I don't think they're responsible.

You're not the guy that had the spider bite bump that itched for a few days before becoming a small, painless lump and then he had a hot-water bath and all these wee black spiders erupted out of it like an arachnid Vesuvius?

From picture (if you haven't scratch that)looks like tonray say! If something bite you it don't rip off skin like that!

Nah, they don't live in grass. Perhaps a couple are on it, but.

My guess would be spider bite.
