Looking for an affordable endocrinologist in BKK

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I've recently had 3 blood tests and all 3 have shown I have hypogonadism, low total and free T. When I discussed the levels with a family physician she wrote me a letter for an endocrinologist to read who should then look to start me on TRT in her professional opinion.

The problem I have is I don't have the money to visit these top endocrinologists, money is definitely an issue in terms of going through more expensive hoops. Does anyone know of any affordable endocrinologists? Or perhaps any alternatives?

Thank you.

Check out BNH Hospital in Sathon.  I see an endocrinologist there and there gastro internists are also pretty good.  You can go to the website they have and search for the doctors in the specialty you want.  My Bill is fairly inexpensive when I see the doctor and have lab tests run.

Thank you, I see they have some doctors available tomorrow. Are you currently on TRT? if so how much is the cost? Thanks.

Not on TRT, but on some other meds for different issues related to diabetes and of course the opposite of what your going through as I have High T.  You would think that at 56 years of age, I would not be having the issues associated with having too much, but I guess I am genetically pre-disposed to it.

Dam I'm envious and the opposite to you, you'd think at 27 I'd have high T but unfortunately mine is not even remotely high.

Just a note that BNH is not only one of the best and oldest hospitals - it is also among the highest priced so any tests made there are likely to be costly as would any medications.

Normal choice for reasonable price among private hospitals in Bangkok are often Bangkok Christian or Saint Louis

Many medications I need are sourced outside of the hospital at the local Pharmacies, only the meds which are new to Thailand and or of the controlled type are only available inside the hospital.  BNH is actually fairly reasonably priced compared to a few others I have been to over the years.  Yes it can be expensive for some procedures, but they will give you a price and it can be discussed with the doctor prior to it going to the billing department and the cashier.  I pay approximately 1500 baht for a visit with my endocrinologist at BNH when I see him.

I don't know what counts as "affordable," but Dr. Kansuda Thongthai at Samitivej is a good endocrinologist. Educated entirely in Canada (UBC, McGill).

Thank you for your responses everyone. I think I just don't want to be paying around 10k a month for treatment.

I remember the first doctor I saw said Bangkok hospital if money is no issue, if it is try Sukhumvit hospital. I was also recommended Mission hospital if anyone knows about this one?

I do like the sound of a western trained doctor though, thanks tyler28.

Thank you Ryan, that doesn't seem to bad either. It's just the constant price for treating TRT is what's making me look around.

Medconsult Clinic in Sukhumvit 49 (walking distance to Samitivej Hospital) can give you the shots (only 200 baht per injection if you bring your own medicine) and run whatever blood tests you need at less than the cost at any hospital.

You could always start out there, get them to do all the injections and periodic blood tests, and just visit an endocrinology specialist every six months or so to have the specialist look over all the lab results.

Its all pretty well hit and miss. Im on 200mg a day, cheap enough at 100 baht for 100pills  100 mg.

recommended i go down to 100mg daily, gave them up for few months as amount so low,but did notice later heavy arms etc so upped it back to 200     I just get TSH and T4 done a couple of times a year   about 300 baht
