Totally disagree. The majority knows how dependent the economy is, on tourism. And the majority know there are safe ways to do this. If only the government would stop with the fear mongering, millions

If they did open to normal procedures, I doubt many would come anyway.

Not sure what the majority of thais think

Do I agree? I understand them because most of them have nothing to do with this tourism industry. But does the tourism industry care about them? I think if they would be allowed to do what they want they simply would do it.

  • Popular Post

Don't agree, but do understand it. It's a tight spot to be in. Open and you will be flooded with covid cases. Keep it closed and your destroying your own tourism industry. IMHO they should open and take the Covid wave. Because I highly doubt they are going to be able to keep this until a vaccine arrives (if it arrives at all).

People just don't want the 'dreaded' covid.  Even though they probably had it already.

People are getting herd immunity in other countries so a year from now it will be no more worrying than the flu....in other countries.  Thailand might be the odd one out!  I will wait and see.

Many of these polls, looks to be the governments wishthinking.

They are often maked on a very small bases and we dont know who they ask, so hard to think these polls are serious.

But whatever, I think it depends where and who you ask, my personal idea is around 50/50 percent want farrang tourism/want not farrang tourism

I feel sorry for all the unnecessarily unemployed people in the tourism industry. Pattaya is in its death throws and Phucket in an even worse situation. If I want to go out for a decent meal I need to go to the dark side or eat in a Mall restaurant in the Pattaya. If tourists remain locked out even more restaurants, bars and small shops will close to never reopen.

5555... almost exactly 25% per choice. No mandate from TV!!

This is actually a good time for thai tourism and Pattaya and phuket both were starting to have trouble with tourism down and dying on walking street.  Now is a good time to reinvent to a more family oriented tourism.

Up to them, I really don't care!

I say open up everything with no restrictions for those who eventually can show they have a covid 19 vaccination card. And the rest should be tested before allowed entrance. I wouldn't mind any of the two as a tourist if that got rid of the annoying demands like masks, quarantine, apps and such.

Thailand could end up prolonging their own problems by not opening up.

The countries which had a very low exposure to covid 19 end up having no herd immunity at all and have to wait for the vaccine to do that trick, but that's going to take some time to get the required doses.

I think Europe return back to almost normal status before Thailand, just because we have been more exposed to it.  Got friends and colleagues that are on vacations right now in other countries in Europe so we're slowly returning to normal even if certain countries still see spikes.

The winter period however could end up bad though, because we're soon going into the normal flu season and ending up having both covid 19 and the flu could be a bad combo which could raise fatalities.

Personally I dropped all plans for returning to Thailand any sooner than July 2021, where I hope things are more normal.

Just out of curiosity. Did they mention why they don't want them back?

Just because of the covid 19?

I fully agree with not opening the borders and import covid. Anyone who is willing to go into quarantine is of course welcome. Its not about keeping people out but trying to keep covid out.

I like it that rules have relaxed can do most things again. I would hate an other lockdown because they let tourists in. Then it was all for nothing. Now most businesses are ok except the tourist related ones.

Sucks for those people but they are a minority and of course a lot of moaning foreigners. What else is new.

I would of course see my parents too but too bad it is how it is. I know they would not go into quarantine for 14 days. That is just impractical. Its a choice for those who want to come if they want to come and be quarantined or not come at all.

lol @ more reinvent more family orientated what would you do turn walking street into a Kids theme park.....not going to happen. The numbers werent showing tourism down. Seriously how many european familys would you expect to travel to Thailand with the costs that flights are going to be charging to make up revenue ?

And lets not start with Doestic tourism as that cannot and will not reach the same level. You will have sitaution like Cha-am where its dead all week and a little trade on the weekends  and holidays from the Bangkokonians that travel.

I would think if you asked the average person in Issan who benefits not one bit when a plane load  of Chinese arrive in Phuket they would say, NOT WANT.

I guess they only asked farmers.

Many families in Issan benefit from tourism as their daughters and sons work in the holiday areas and send money home to support their parents and send there own kids to school.

Many but not all, it would be interesting to see a breakdown by area, this survey is of course for the expat community and will not give a thai based result.

Ditto

It all boils down to who you ask in a survey

If involved in the Tourist industry hotels ,bars ,Restaurants and other entertainment enterprises they will say yes to tourists coming back

Ask the normal working Thai outside of Pattaya Phuket  Hua Hin ect

Proberly could not care less so would say no

Agreed Covid has destroyed what was left but yep it has been going down the toilet for a couple of years, ask traders what business was like pre Covid, they understand that there nay be as many on the plane but after they change there currency it doesn't go so far.

GBP £1000 x 40 baht = 40000

       £1000 x 55 baht  = 55000

same same for all the expats there is not some much to spread around

One poll of 1300 people, where 57% say no is hardly an overwhelming game changer, particularly if those asked have not been affected yet by the effects on the tourism sector.

The country is in a Spiralling financial mess with job losses piling up.

Clearly they “seem” to want to get people back, hence their hare brained schemes they have announced which are changing by the day, so they recognise how important tourism is to them.

Their problem is they have spread paranoia amongst the country and can’t just open up and lose face, and can’t stay closed forever and end up in a deeper mess. So they need a compromise that allows tourism back whilst retaining some kind of Face saving control. What they have proposed won’t facilitate that.

Any returnees apart from a relatively few desperate love sick foreigners will  not jump through the hoops they have announced. Nor will any Tourists be tempted to holiday here and be caged up for two weeks. So they have a dilemma.

Testing prior to travelling and on arrival seems fair. Those with families and homes should be allowed to self isolate there.

Anyone with an existing Visa or property owners should be allowed back, you have insulted them enough already with your ridiculous proposals.

*waits for the inevitable  “I’m alright jack, life’s here never been so good without all the tourists” posts from the usual suspects.
