Despite these extraordinary restrictions Dr Tharet is convinced this is the way forward to kickstart the Thai economy and get the tourism ball rolling again. Is this Thailand no it is ALCATRAZ . I am the perfect candidate for this, I don't mind them monitoring my movements, after all I am fairly regular and they are usually in a predictable place, generally known as a toilet. I do go places that the Thais don't, which is actually into the shops in malls to buy stuff and I would really appreciate some minders as I have always fancied myself as a bit of an Arthur Daley. I have also wanted to experiment with 'fresh air activities' I'm just a little concerned about the spiders and where the sand may end up, but other than that I'm good to go ????
MartinL
"They will have to stick to routes where other Thai people do not go. They must not veer off course at all". If that could be applied to those of us travelling on Thailand's roads, they might be onto a winner. Just imagine - roads exclusively for foreigners! Bliss!!
Popular Post Ganesh108
Just like there are 'ghost taxis' in Thailand (taksee phee, unlicensed taxis), these tourists could be called nak-thorng-tiow phee, the ghost tourists - only seen occasionally by nervous natives furtively hiding in bushes, and only heard by the clanging of their chains. Occasionally a minder would call out, 'Hey you, falang, get back on the trail, fast. We must go Buriram!' 2

Popular Post SpanishExpat
all other countries in the region have clearly said they WON*T open up until 2021. So why is TH bs around? For now...let everyone enter who accepts the quarantine, negative covid test etc. That could be the retiree, who desperately wants to go back. That could be someone, who just misses his/her gf/bf and wants to visit her/him for 2-3 months. Or it could be the genuine tourist who would even visit TH with all those extra costs. The quarantine/ negative covid test is 99.9% safe and it`s much easier now, as the semi-commercial flights have been restarted. Let that run smoothly for 4-6 months and then re-evaluate. It`s ridiculous that there are around 70 ASQ hotels now, but most are half-empty, because of the 1111 extra-hurdles.

Popular Post spidermike007
Tharet is the latest "dummy of the day". Thailand needs courageous leadership. They don't have it. The army are major cowards. ANY person from ANY nation should be welcome starting tomorrow, if they are willing to subject themselves to a 14 day quarantine and pay excessive fees for that two week sentence. There is no downside or risk, and only upside for the nation. No groveling from a local consulate should be required. That is utter nonsense. A covid free letter and a booking at an approved hotel. Period. No more Inane "Phuket or Thailand models". And no special health insurance either. Quarantine is enough of a penalty already. And you will only attract a few thousand tourists a month with the quarantine. But, at least it is something. Man up! Show us something. Show us anything. Just stop showing us nothing. Stop being silly and stop the nonsense. Edited October 13, 2020 by spidermike007

TKDfella
Questions. Will the 'minder also have to wear tracker. Will the minder also have a minder, and that minder have a minder, to make sure the minder's minder doesn't stray (see family etc.) I know, why not get the tourist to mind the minder's minder...yeah, right, that is just about as crazy as their plan. Why not put all tourists on a chain gang and done with it; that way they'll at least feel comfortable when they visit those exciting prisons. 1

Does going to the toilet count for another rubber stamp under my new scheme count?? This is currently under discussion with Prayut. Hey, this is as good as all the other stupid ideas from the alphabet soup of Ministries and TAT. No rubber stamp required for the toilet as we have CCTV installed.
