  • Omg this is better than Benny Hill and Monty python ????????????

  • I think the biggest problem they might face is marshaling the huge queues of people desperate to get into Thailand on these terms.

Curiouser and curiouser, as I think Alice said as she go to know more and more about Wonderland. This latest idea could only have come from the mind of the Mad Hatter.

Just when you thought you heard it all...

Oh mercy.

A Covid minder?  Of course! The perfect opportunity for Thailand to invent a new uniform.

Post of the day. Possibly the year.

Didn't these people's mothers tell them things in 2020 that you say stay on social media forever!   What desperate idiots.   Why don't we hear about plans to educate the masses and teach better English and pick up the trash and teach people about littering and safe driving? Why don't we have Anutin and some of these other foriegn bashers fired from their jobs?  A campaign of bringing back the real thai smile.  We all know its just a fake smile the only interest is in our pants.  The wallet pocket.

*They will have to be followed around 24/7 by Covid minders to ensure they don't stray and are healthy

that is nice, then we can offer "Russia pre-CIS nostalgia" or "Remember Berlin behind the Wall" type tours,
or, even better, a "Pokemon-C-Minder" experience.

It'll never happen. Question: Who pays for and trains a Covid minder? This is what happens after a military coup where unqualified people are put in charge without supervision.

There is a deluge of postings about what it is needed to get into Thailand. And I feel deeply for people who are caught in that and suffer from it. Nevertheless, there is another side of the coin which is not mentioned (as far I have seen): those people who are in Thailand (like me, 5 years, retirement visa) and do not dare to go back to Europe or elsewhere (you know, family, weddings, baptisms and that sort of things) because they don't know if they will be able to come back. So I keep my head down but it is of course not a satisfactory situation. Just left with fear of one immigration officer or having to take the chance being able to come back.

Will the minder follow behind blowing his whistle to keep you on the striaght and narrow

and what if, during your guided walk avoiding regular Thais,
(what begs the question how are these Tourists going to spend money? 7-11 vending machines?)
you encounter a nice kitten that needs help?
Will he be rewarded ?

Just go to a local Thai restaurant and one of the sketchy massage parlors in a random strip mall back home. Better experience than this <deleted>.

This proposal doesn't come from anyone associated with the military but nice try.

Here are the conditions that would allow tourists to perhaps leave their quarantine rooms

* They will have to wear tracking devices to monitor their every movement.

*They will have to stick to routes where other Thai people do not go. They must not veer off course at all.

*They will have to be followed around 24/7 by Covid minders to ensure they don't stray and are healthy

* They will be encouraged to do fresh air activities - golf was mentioned in the Daily News story as a possibility.

Despite these extraordinary restrictions Dr Tharet is convinced this is the way forward to kickstart the Thai economy and get the tourism ball rolling again.

These folks truly live in "La La Land."

The biggest problem that the Thai nation has (apart from the hilarious ''Loss of Face') is that hardly anyone knows what is happening in the world outside of Thailand - and it goes deeper than this.

The first foreigner to live in Thailand (Ayutthaya) was the French diplomat, the Chevalier de Chaumont, in 1688. He was regarded with suspicion and distrust, confined to his (very luxurious) compound and only permitted outside under the 'protection' of guards. Does this sound like a familiar idea, 400 years later?

The *vast majority of Thais are primitive and superstitious, believe in the reality of ghosts, are grossly undereducated and know nothing of science or world history. Their society teaches them (and they genuinely believe) that Thailand is the biggest nation in the world, and the best.

Thus it has come about that not only are they deliberately educated to not think for themselves or be capable of imagination or initiative, but they know absolutely nothing (other than Hollywood movies) about the Western world at all. They have no awareness of what is socially acceptable, politically correct, how people live, their customs, traditions and religions, what kind of housing they have, how much they earn, the difference in outlook between Europeans and Americans - or even where on the globe these two continents might be.

And yet these are the people who are coming up with the policy-making and administrative decisions today, in Thailand, and concocting scenarios concerning such foreigners

Is it any wonder at all that they are now, particularly with the bafflement that Covid has created, unable to make informed or sensible plans on an administrative basis?

*Yes, of course, their are many Thai people who have lived or studied and worked abroad. But in terms of percentages it is very small, overall.

If I can choose from a beach-fashion line-up the minder who's to entice me from not straying, I'm willing to negotiate

The most powerful and most orange leader of the free world for the past 44 months being an exception to this rule?

pathetic and unrealistic ‘ 24/7 tracker 24/7 minders ‘ not allowed to mingle with Thais and encouraged to do daily activities ???????? sorry Thailand no longer the land of smiles,.it’s the land of stupidity ! It’s these daft comments that will deter tourism returning

Is this a joke? 30-40M foreign tourists a year and they have no idea of the needs, desires and behaviour of tourists? NO tourists will come under these terms.

I am happy that I sold my 2 houses and car, I moved to another country ,,,

Its about time somebody collected all these great ideas and published them in a hilarious book, ideal for the Xmas gift scene. It'd sell millions.

You would have thought they would have got it into their tiny little brains that no one is really interested in coming here.

Have you ever heard of anything so ridiculous

Thailand is causing more trouble for itself by delaying this continually. When the rest of the world comes through this thailand will be behind them and deemed too risky for travel.

"Stupid" is a relative concept.

But I will say that when I was going around with the (university educated) Thai woman I eventually married, she wouldn't believe me when I showed her Thailand on a map ("but we are such a big country!") and refused to agree that North America and Europe were so huge (she'd never looked at a world map before).

On two occasions, before we married I pointed out a shooting star to her. The first time she wouldn't look up and was immediately upset, but wouldn't tell me why. The second time it happened she actually cried. Eventually she told me the reason. A shooting star carries the soul of a new child about to be born; if you stare at it then that child is stillborn - it dies.

Later it emerged that she had no idea of the body and its organs and that there was a separate alimentary and digestive system - she had the vague idea that, past the throat, there was some kind of big cavity into which the air and food all went. There are many more examples, including putting a Band Aid on her face when she had toothache.

She was also the sweetest, gentlest, most caring and loving person I'd ever met, full of humour and sensitivity. It's simply that her schooling and further education had placed no importance on these things and focused on Thai history and culture instead. It was hardly her fault.

After being with me for 18 years she (and our two children) is a lot more enlightened now! ????
