Hi can any members advice the best and cheapest means for shipping clothes and small belongings to Thailand from Ireland or UK. My family and I are planning on immigrating next year so want to start moving clothes now to our home in Thailand.

Buy new clothes when you get to Thailand,   30% inpoet tax on shoes so stick a pair of your favorites in the suitcase and another pair on your feet.

Thank you both for the advice. I am a big guy so buying clothes is not easy in Thailand and I am planning a one way trip with my family and will have no plans on returning here. So its important to bring a few things as in clothes and a few paintings but noting big like fridges or tvs.

How many clothes do you have? My entire wardrobe would fit in a large suitcase ????

Clothing and especially shoes, even when used, seem to be second only to medication in causing Thai customs to have an apoplectic fit and start waving around silly numbers.

If you can't wear it or fit it in your family luggage allowance (or possibly use an excess baggage service) don't bring it.

Tailors here will make / copy pretty well anything and not at silly prices, hunt out the little local shops not the flashy places on the main drag. We use a little chap down a side street in Rangsit market. His family live in the shop so kids running around your feet or granny slurping noodles in front of the TV whilst you are being measured / fitted are part of the experience.

If you are over a Euro 45/UK 10 then shoes may prove to be an issue and biting the bullet on import duties the way to go ????

I had mostly only branded clothes, my wife and her daughter use all my shirts like nightshirt and destroy all. Good my jeans and shoes not fit to them! Here branded clothes cost crazy much so i only buy and wear sheap here. Even when i have travel last times in home coundry i have only had small bag whit me.

I'M 6FT3' +  US 14 shoe and currently in Oz. Sometime next year when I head back I will fill a large suitcase with shorts polo shirts (BKK) and wife beaters ( for Pattaya) AND shoes from an oversize shoe shop here

All of the above are better quality and cheaper than Thailand. Your a big guy so bring clothes with you but be realistic in what you will wear and than cut that by half unless you need work cloths.

Be ruthless and ceclutter - you will thank me for it! Your house will soon be full of clothes/junk as most Thais I know find it impossible to throw anything away!

When we made the move - we did it over two different trips.

4 suitcases and 80kg a time. It was only because my wife has a lot of expensive stuff that we bought it back. Although there is not much need for Burberry raincoats here :whistling:

TRUST ME YOU WILL NOT WEAR 90% OF IT as it is too hot. Decent brand name t-shirts and shorts can be bought for bobbins at the outlet Malls in Bangkok - Central Village and Siam Premium Outlet.

Small household effects talk to a decent shipper who will know the sp.

As he said in his post he is a big guy. Decent brand names don't come in 3X XL   4X XL

Although the cheaper malls have a big man section these are poorly stitched rubbish that won't make it through 10 machine cycles

Plenty of secondhand clothes shops in Thailand, my GF hunts in them for hours, then brings the spoils back to me to try on. XL size, she's brought back some pretty good labels. I only need shirts and trousers, socks and underwear are as cheap as chips.
