Is the Thai/Cambodian Border crossing open at Poipet?

We don't actually want to cross it but my wife wants to open a retail business and the market on the Thai side looks like the place to go order/buy stock reasonably cheaply to sell on. I gather from what my wife says that you can order there and a "gofer" will take a hand cart and trot across the border to get it for you? Of course if the border is still closed that is the end of that but if anyone is giving advice on the set up if it is open your advice would be welcome.

There is a wholesale market in Bkk but given the unpredictable and potentially violent nature of police and army activity with anti-government and monarchy protests abounding we'd just as soon not go into Bkk right now. We got caught up in some of that rubbish prior to the 2014 coup and would just as soon let them fight it out without us in the middle.

Sounds like a great excuse for a road trip to find out.  How many hours is it by road from BKK?

Please post back if you get any info.  A lot of us appreciate info like that, even if we're Covid refugees locked out of Thailand.

Oh, and Illegitimi non carborundum.

My wife says it's about 2.5 hours but we'll be driving our truck which doesn't do car speeds so probably 3 hours or so. We are North East of Bangkok and about 15km NE of Minburi.

It seems that cargo can cross the borders. I dont know how it works in your case, but still, the bordres is open for cargo, there must be a way to do it.

I would go for it and give it a try.

Lets hear if you get luck with buisness idea.

I understand you will away from the political fights, this is not our fight.

Sorry - what is your problem pal? With all the changes going on I don't know if the border is open or not and I would like info on the market situation. Fortunately most folk on here are neither as rude or as unhelpful as you seem to be.  If you don't know then why would you bother making irrelevant comments?

You are so correct. I suspect this rude-nic has a liquid beverage in one hand, while tapping the keyboard with the other.

For reference from the Cambodian side:-

The border crossing between Poi-Pet (Cambodia) and Aranyaphratet (Thailand) is basically still CLOSED. There was a short "window" where Cambodian business people trading at the big Rong Kluea Market were allowed to cross and collect their property. I believe this Thai market is still open but no supplies from Cambodia as far as I know. The only cross-border traffic are trucks carrying various import/export cargoes and the return of illegal immigrants.

If you do Thai style racing you might make it in 2.5 hours. Probably 3 to 4 hours, the visa run company vans used to take 4 to 5 hours.

thecyclist - Hmm - that's a big drive there and back then. Thanks for that info, our truck would probably be slower than one of those loonie van drivers would go!

Burma Bill - many thanks for that, guess we'll have to wait it out for a bit. About a month ago there were YouTube videos of the market on the Thai side that showed it almost devoid of traffic and open shops.

itsallmine68 - I was not on my backside and if google had given me the answers I wouldn't be asking questions for possibly local people or those who travelled there to respond here. Those who are a bit grumpy I can do without. So sorry to disturb your sublime rest!

So don't answer then! IATA (International AIR Travel Association doesn't actually cover border crossings on land by the way and assumptions that the same rules apply as international arrivals as for local border crossings are likely to be erroneous.
