Where should I post on questions on Colognes?

Cos ermmm......some farangs stink.

Colognes they use back home, just somehow mutate to strange smells in Thailand. Think its the change of diet; changes in body chemical balance thingy and resulting in errr.....mutated cologne smells.

On poorer Westerners moving to Thailand, I think it is important to remember that even an English teacher making 28,000 Baht per month is actually generating more wealth for the economy than 4-5 average Thai people (this is not an argument about rights and who was born here, is Thai, etc., I am making a purely economic argument). A retiree on 50,000 Baht per month is nearly double that: 8-12 average Thai's economic power. So, all these "weird retirees" in the bush are actually contributing mightily to the Thai economy, and actually do not absorb the same amount of State resources (such as 30 baht medical care) that a 4-6,000 Baht a month Thai does. Add to it the fact that in more developed areas (Korat, Surin, Udon) businesses open to cater to their Western needs, further creating jobs and economic opportunities. Once you start adding up the numbers, you can see how important these "poor" Westerners are to Thailand's economy - even the 28k English teachers.

Quite well spoken.

Don't forget that the retirees money comes from abroad and is injected into the economy. The teachers salary and the most thai's salaries are paid from money that is recirculating already. It is already part of the money multiplier factor where the retirees money starts from scratch so it has a much larger impact on the economy than is apparent at first glance .

Bendix,

With all due respect (and I'm not a troll; I'm just curious), were you a psych major at university? Is your favorite poet Kipling? Is mankind on the whole inferior due to ignoble birth? And finally, was Stalin's heartlessness a matter of aspiration by your seemingly kindred spirit?

Don't take this wrong. It's not an attack. It's rather a .....mere....query.

So lighten up 'Ol Boy and elucidate on your essence. We are all curious.

Cheers!

University major? Philosophy and politics.

Favourite poet? Philip Larkin and Ernest Dowson

Mankind? Is generally crap

Stalin? Like all despots, a mix of desire for perfection, nationalism and completely disregard for human suffering.

My essence? Some blood and guts, mixed with some thoughts, all wrapped up in a very handsome package.

In the west, we all - guys especially - have external and vocal 'checks' to curb our naturally lax standards. Usually it is the form of a wife, girlfriend, peers at work etc. If they see us slipping, they have a word. A wife will nag. A friend will advise. A boss will cajole and ask what's going on. Even in the absence of those, there is unstated peer examples - we take our leads from what we see around us. We don't want to look bad in other's eyes.

That's what I escaped from when moving here.

Back in the West if you bring home 2 hookers to have fun you will be on your neighbours mouths for a whole year.

Here in Pattaya if I do the same thing hardly anyone notices. Not that I do that often (actually, almost never, why pay double, unless you want to help two girls to pay their room without appearing a tingtong), but it is so good to know I could do it anytime.

Memo to Immigration Department: If you could continue to tighten up those visa laws, many of us would be very grateful. Thank you in advance.

Yea, knowing that you can exploit another human beings financial situation must give you such a warm feeling about yourself. :o

Note to Immigration : Please rid Thailand of these people.

Note to Maigo6 and Bendix: Thanks for sharing the stuck up view that people without the good fortune to have fancy educations like you must all be stupid, naive and otherwise susceptible to being taken advantage of. Thanks also for your moralistic view that certain activities for money means being taken advantage of.

Good God, why even let all these people vote, no?

From Canada. Planing on moving to Thailand (outside of Bangkok).... After a lot of research I think I'm able to live on 2500 CAN (75000 Thai) per month. Being a newbie I may spend more but after time I hope to know the ways of Thailand more. What do ya think ppl???

lots of responses to this and has taken on a life of its own. Thanks, will take a while to digest it all.

Can I add that I was originally meaning for a Thai person to live in Bangkok, not living the high life, not going out much but not living hand to mouth either.

Cheers.

Please tell me why do you wait for nearly 2 1/2 pages, befor stating that you originally meant Thai person? are you Thai? are you doing research? are you not going to join the conversation and give more information? Or are you wondering if she is asking for to much? :wai::cheesy:

Am I missing something???.......

Lots of threads talk about "well if just want to eat only Thai street food" bloody hell can't any of you guys cook or have a lovely lady that's got a bleedin' wok.. Meat and veggies here are so much less than western countries..how <deleted> hard is it to fry/roast some pork/pork ribs/beef or or potatoes/noodles/rice or whatever to produce a farang food delight???

...Okay so there is little or no lamb maybe at the market..but wild prawns are less than 200baht a kilo!!......even <deleted> pizza is cheaper than NA or Europe. Is there something that says if you are in Thailand you MUST visit high priced western restaurants etc??? What a silly bunch...You can buy a "once or twice a month rabbit/lamb/salmon/duck/whatever at Carfor and you will still eat better and for less than the average NA or Euro!!!

I couldn't imagine if this lot were ask to be self-sufficient in a pinch. Rather a sad reflection of contemporary Western cultures and their truer characters.

You hit the nail right on the head most people can't cook. However cooking in gereral is more expensive then Thai street food but less expensive then farang food.

Somebody resurrects an old thread to ask a legit question but the people that choose to reply decide to comment instead on the off topic remarks from 4 years ago??

I can live of 40k a month, but i got a gf that contributes financially. I live a little bit outside of bkk in one of the muh bahns. We pay around 6000 for rent / morgage (before rented now we bought its about the same amaunt). Pay around 2000-2500 for electricity (depends on the season and only aircon on at night). Food makes a big difference if you eat Thai food.. or foreign food or cook yourself. Cheapest is Thai streetfood. Most expensive foreign food in restaurants. In between you got cooking for yourself.

IF you need to pay for female companionship then prices go up again. Also if you want to live in the center of BKK prices go up. You can spend as much or as little as you want. I got an English teacher friend who lives for under 30k a month. I could easily afford to spend more but decided to budget myself to 40k and put the rest of what i earn on a savings account.
